Happy Homemaker Monday

Today I am joining Diary of at Stay at Home Mom for Happy Homemaker Monday.

The weather in my neck of the woods. . .
More scattered rain and thunderstorms.  Row, row, row your boat....

Things that make me happy. . .
Making something by hand for myself or for the family.

Menu for this week. . .
Monday:  Homemade Tuna and Noodle with garden peas, and homemade broccoli salad with garden broccoli

Tuesday:  Baked Cod, spinach and corn relish
....not sure on the rest of the week yet.  Maybe some wild black raspberry pancakes for either breakfast or dinner.

What's on my TV. . .
  Anything good on Netlix

Looking around the house . . .
My living room is actually clean, a few jars of jam need labeled and put in the pantry, and the ice cube trays need refilled.  I am down to 12 drawers/cupboards in the kitchen, that need knobs and pulls added.

On my to-do list . . .
 check garden
 check water in the barn
 vacuum
 fold laundry
 make broccoli salad
 bake banana muffins
 sweep kitchen
 ironing
 swipe one bathroom

New recipe I have tried or want to try soon. . .
Nothing new this past week.  I did make a macaroni salad, that includes a dozen boiled eggs in it - second time to make it.  It uses a cooked vinegar/onion mix in it.  Yum!

In the craft basket. . .
A dishcloth getting knitted, a few small Christmas gifts getting made, some flour sack towels and embroidery floss.

Looking forward to this week. . .
I'm looking forward to porch time, whether it is handiwork, reading, or writing.  Or simply sitting and sipping a nice beverage.  Or playing cards with the gang here.

Tips and Tricks. . .
Rub a raw potato on the grill to keep food from sticking.

My favorite blog post this week. . .
There are so many good ones, it's hard to pick one.

Blog Hopping (a new discovered blog you would like to share with the readers). . .
 Nothing at the moment

No words needed (favorite photo or picture). . .

Lesson learned the past few days. . .
Don't water porch pots with my slippers on.  I accidentally splashed the watering can right over my feet the other day, ha ha!  I left my slippers out there to dry out.

On my mind. . .
To be honest, the outcome of the garden is on my mind daily anymore, the excess of rain we are continuing to get, wanting to go camping and I can't (about to pop up a tent in my bedroom). . .talking myself out of a pity party and trying to keep the humor flowing these days.

Devotional, Scripture readings, key verses. . . .
My morning devotional I took to the porch this morning.

The To Do List looks a lot like mine today. Done so far, cleaned the bathroom, vacuumed the living room. Next, deep clean the kitchen (again, it's been a daily chore here cause we've been battling ants).

A homemade paste of Borax, sugar and a bit of water, put into old cottage cheese cartons (to protect pets) with tops pierced with nails has helped a lot, as has plain old cinnamon scattered around the borders of the kitchen counter, i.e. they will NOT cross cinnamon. And whenever I've seen one trying to come up through a crack or crevass, I spray that with Pine Glo to eliminate the pheromone trail and kill any ants that do try to come through there after. We've really gotten a good handle using all these things cause they literally swarmed the kitchen last weekend and now we're only seeing a couple here and there.
Thank God!!!

God bless.

RB, thanks for that tip using the container. We have pets too.

Make sure the lids on the containers are very tight fitting so a crafty pet can't pry or jar it off.
You could even put this paste into an old glass jar or bottle with a metal screw cap that you've poked holes into for the ants to get in, for extra safety for critters.
If you used, say an old glass bottle like one used for vinegar, jelly, etc. , laid on its side (to keep rain from getting in diluting the mix) right by ants nests in the yard would work well too.
God bless.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
