27 Weeks Until Christmas

Visited a thrift store that was in an old house, and one room was a "Christmas" themed room.  I bought two $.50 ornaments (proceeds went to a local church).  Most items were over priced for a "thrift" store. A favorite crockpot side dish of ours - crockpot creamed corn.  It's different than some recipes you make on the stove top (we still love that kind too).  Crockpots are so handy during the holidays. The recipe is from Southern Ladies Cook online.  We have been making the recipe for a few years now, and it's been so handy, and quick to make for a side dish. I would double or triple this recipe for larger get togethers.  We love it the most, because we freeze corn off the cob every year, and when it's frozen, it's frozen with butter and a bit of sugar (I salt later when it's cooked).  The recipe for this crockpot side dish requires corn and butter both, and since the butter is already in the corn, I cut back on what's added.   The re...

1:30am Moom ~ Small Day Adventures ~ Barn Cat ~ Crochet/knit Socks of Another Kind

The things I do when I cannot sleep.  Take photos of the moon.  This was, I think, from last Thursday early in the morning. I am being very bad at eating breakfast at all.  I have a light lunch and come dinner, I don't want to eat either.  The stress has been over the moon bad.  Just lots of things going on. The chance for rain on Saturday (60%) went off the radar as fast as it went on.  However, we thankfully got a nice pour down last night.   My 21 year-old and I went on a small day adventure and visited an antique store in the Big City.   I've been wanting one of these for a long time.  First, I thought I might paint it red, but I may leave it yellow.  I kind of like it. We also went to a thrift store, which I sort of thought was not stocked by much (oddly).  I snatched up this green pepper dish for $1.00 and it now holds my vegetable scrubber. Picked up this wine bottle stand for a few bucks as...

Thrift and Antique Store Finds

I found this vintage pattern pillow case ( Fashion Manor Percale Penn-Prest) at a thrift store for $.50.  I love the yellow roses on it.  I thought about using it in the camper, but decided to give it to one of the girls to use (who loves yellow).  It was hard to give it up, but my pillows are king and this fit a standard.  I love the beautiful lace on it too.

Thrift Store and Flea Market Finds ~ Oh My!

Over the weekend, a thrift store was having a customer appreciation sale - 50% off store wide.  I got all of this (two bed sheets, 3 vintage tablecloths) for about $8.00 total.  The bedding will be saved for camping, and possibly a few of the tablecloths.

Thrift Finds

As I mentioned in a previous post, Hubby and I walked through a thr i ft store last week. Although prices there were higher than I woul d like, I brought home . . . . . . a cookbook for grilling fish

Thrift Find ~ Clothespin Apron

(reversible, and handmade) As promised to some folks, here is the photo of the clothespin apron I purchased for $1.50.  I found it at a thrift store, when I was really not looking for anything in particular.  I love it when I find useable thrift items.  I just have to keep the shopping prudent.

$5.00 Vintage Tablecloth

Thrift Find ~ New Recipes

A cup made in France for $.30.  I found this a few days ago when I was in search for something else. I never intended to bake and cook so much today, but we wanted to enjoy some the sweet corn we purchased yesterday. I was up and milking goats at 6:30am, then out to the front porch to shuck 5 more dozen ears of corn.  Before 9am I had 30 more cups of corn blanched and cooled for freezing.   For dinner, I ended up making a new potato salad recipe, and the kids hand churned a new ice cream recipe that is made with honey. I may be sharing both of the recipes if they are winners with the family.  I also baked 2 apple pies with my last 2 jars of homemade pie filling.  Looks like I will be canning some more this season. We finally got rain, so I plan on getting some much needed rest for the much needed weeding tomorrow. Our tomatoes are also turning red, so canning salsa may be happening soon too. If you don't see me commenting on your blog, I'm having...

Vintage Pearls

(an antique store "find") Whether these are real or not, I bought them.  They were only $.50 each, including the earrings.  Although I bought them for wearing, the girls are already fighting over who gets to wear them first, for play jewelry.  A girl has to have her pearls.

Thrift Store Mania

A few of nearby thrift stores offer a frequent shopper card.  Imagine that.  This is only trouble for those of us with no self-control in shopping at such stores, ha ha ha!  I recently earned $15.00 free at one particular store.
