For some reason, the two humans walking around here, named me Alvin. I love to torment the woman! I sort of crawl up the downspout drain, and when she's weeding in her flower beds, I like to zip on down the spout and give her a fright. He he!
I also love to eat that delicious bits of morsels he sets out in a bowl. How did she know I'm hungry? Ha, I eat it up before that cat comes up to eat, he he he he! Even though I know it's not good for me. She'll only leave it out during the day, as those rotten raccoons will devour it all first. I don't care that she moved the bowl way up by the door either. I just sneak on up and stuff my cheeks full and carry on.
Ha! Hope you enjoyed that "tidbit" for today. He really is a pain in my rump. The cat hasn't even caught him/her yet. I'm surprised. Our last barn cats eradicated all chipmunks, but this one continues to try and take over the place.
It started raining last night and will rain all day long. No grilling out meals for our Memorial Day weekend. The bad? It delays planting our vegetable garden, and more flowers, delays weeding and re-landscaping the flower beds. The good? Most likely, we'll get a few more stalks of asparagus to eat, and I'm pretty sure I'll find more cleavers, and possibly more chickweed. I'll have to check the rhubarb again too. I have two types of sage in the herb garden, and the rain is helping revive one of the plants. Winter was hard on a lot, so I am thankful for what is springing to life.
New recipe tried, but only because I lost my first recipe, and came across this one. The last one I made was back in 2020 or so, and the dressing had a mayo base, and the salad had cucumbers in it.
The pasta salad (photo above), contains a homemade dressing of olive oil, red wine vinegar (soon to try it with my homemade chive vinegar), juice from limes, cumin and salt and pepper. I cannot wait to have some fresh picked cherry tomatoes, but those tomatoes in the photo are organic grape from the grocery store. It contains both black beans and black eyed peas. The recipe is called "Cowboy Caviar Pasta Salad" and it's online with Eating on a Dime.
Note: the black thing in the bottom right is my spatula. I didn't want you to think I had olives or something in it, ha ha! I'm still looking into replacing my black utensils. I think I have 3 left to replace yet.
The results? We had someone here the day I made it, and all three of us like this pasta. My husband said, he'd like to try it with some feta cheese added, and I suggested dicing up some home canned pickled jalapenos to add for more flavor, but overall, we all said it would please a crowd as the recipe is written. I used an organic/non-gmo pasta brand I picked up somewhere, and for the life of me cannot remember where I bought it. Either way, this recipe is great for your next BBQ or get together. I sent our friend home with a container of it.
Blog notes: Now that the kids are all moved out, I am looking to make changes on my blog header. I have "family" in the header, which will change soon. Possibly update the blog photos at the top too. Possibly even change the blog title. Possibly keep the same title. Is there any one topic that you enjoy more on this blog? Any topics you don't like to read about? Just thought I'd inquire.
