Pioneer Woman at Heart

I spent yesterday afternoon driving the 30 mile round trip to the "big city."  I delivered meals, to not only Dad, but Mom too.  I had s pent a few days in the kitchen with all four burn ers going and one crock pot.  I always deliver a "breakfast" meal to Dad too.  Meals included a new recipe ~ Creamy Sweet Potato Salad.  Have you ever made a potato salad with sweet potatoes?  This was a first for me.  Easy and delicious.  I t went very fast too. I know everyone but the one "vege t arian" daughter (who won't eat sweet pota toes) loved it.  I'm still p ushing her to at lea st tast e it.  If there is any left over today. I can't say I followed it exactly, bu t pretty close. You bake the diced sweet potatoes f irst.

Spring is finally here, so the new door mat is now out.  I have another on for the camper too. Thi s is our first year to have so many b l oss oms on the peach tre e.  I am hopeful this year.  The snow did not cause any harm.

I had one more butternut squash to use, and decided to make a recipe that is in one of my Root Cellar books. Warning:  lo ng blog post again (sorry) Hubby and I took a road trip Sunday, and I took along my Root Cellar book.  He is motivated more now that ever to get things done around here. Why?

The weekend was pretty prosperous.  Hubby needs a motorcycle helmet, so he offered to tote the younger two around for their needs (one is attending prom next month), while I stayed home. Although two kiddos were out, two were also in.  That gave me more dog walkers, so I stocked up on homemade condensed cheddar soup.  Two more "c a ns" made it to the freezer.

I think I have enough new recipes to challenge myself into trying a new one every day.  For a year. Sigh.... Guess what I found?  More recipes.   I pulled my favorite crock pot cookbook off the cookbook stand to clean, and found a few recipes held together with a clothespin.  Top one looks like it may be good too.  Well, I guess meal planning won't be so difficult this fall. As for that collard frittata recipe?

It's "party" day today.  I'm off to mop the kitchen one last time.  It rained last night, so hopefully it will be less humid outside today too. We are still working on the "big" barn project.  I may have more news by Monday.

Sunday's work list was changed once again.  While Hubby continued to work on the truck, I went straight out to water flowers. Watering with a rain barrel takes patience.  The water doesn't just spray out like a hose hooked to the house.  We have drained one barrel, and almost a second one, leaving me two more to water with.  I don't like to completely drain them, or a good swift wind will take them sailing, and I'll be replacing water spigots again.
