More Blooms ~ Dehydrating Sage ~ From Pile to File

More garden blooms.  I had a hard time getting the photos, as the lens steamed up from the humidity and heat. I dehydrated my first small batch of sage, using my smaller dehydrator.  I learned that if you cut back your sage too much (close to fall), it will die over winter.  I dehydrate in small batches over the summer to avoid killing my sage plant. We had another very hot and humid day.  Garden work was done early.  I needed to check the radishes and tie up more tomato plants. I got another new recipe off the pile.  It's a healthier breakfast bake using sweet potatoes vs. white potatoes.  I added some finely diced jalapenos to it.  I also used sage sausage vs. the sausage the recipe called for (no water, just cooked it first), and of course organic ingredients. It was very good, but the sweet potatoes released some liquid, so I would cook the onion and sweet potatoes before hand, and shorten the cook time.  Oh, and you can make this...

Random Tidbits ~ Pumpkin Hummus

The carrots are all out of the ground - 7.7# more. I got them all out after a day of rain, but it was so wet out there.  I could not pull dead plants, and then the rain returned this morning.  With a vengeance.  This puts all garden work, and barn work to a halt.

Signs of Spring ~ Herb Bread

The daffodils and hyacinths are up and about to bloom.  No signs of tulips, except at my little garden alongside a log.  I hope to start bringing in fresh flowers soon. Once again the weather p eople wer e wrong.  The high 7 0's th at were forec asted for early this week?  Not happening.  If we ar e lucky , we'll get up to maybe 60°F today , then drop to the 40's and 50' s for a few weeks (or so they say).

Homemade Shallot Powder ~ Dehydrating Shallots

I love shallots.  They have such a good flavor for sauces and such.  They kind of have a n onion flavor with hints of garlic in it. Some days I want to flavor my greens (other other dishes) with shallots and I don't have them on hand.

Homemade Croutons ~ Homemade Dry Italian Seasoning ~ Tidbits

It seemed a s soon as we stocke d some firewood by the house, the weather turned dreary , cold and then rain a rrived.  W e woke up to this.   The sun is shini ng and the there is no wind.  It's actually a b ea utiful Sun day.  Warning.... feeling talkative this m orning.  Grab a cu p of your favorite bevera ge. Our grocery store is now selling an organic whole wheat (label ed non-gmo ) bread.  I was lucky to get a loaf at a good price, which I made homemade croutons with.  N ext batch I will try using homemade bread of some sort.
