Opening the Windows ~ Gratitude

The first thing I did yesterday, was open a few windows.  It was so nice to get some fresh air in the house and clear out the germs.  It was nice to hear nature as well, and kind of relaxing - birds, the pitter patter of rain, Sparta crowing.

We had a lot of standing water, but last night's high winds dried up some of it.

Evidently, the school is passing around a stomach virus, and our 15 year-old was home sick.  Thankfully, I still had some homemade ginger-ale, however she couldn't even keep that down.  So....

I totally forgot about tea tree oil on my feet, so thank you Nancy po, for reminding me.  I should have taken a bath with it at the very first onset of symptoms, and not later.  I had been using eucalyptus oil.  Since our daughter could not keep any liquids down, I had her put the tea tree oil mixture on her feet.  She slept for a few hours, and was later able to eat a popsicle and drink a hot cup of herbal mullein tea.

I used the tea tree oil mixture too, and feel better, but I am pretty certain it's mostly allergies.  On Sunday, at the zoo (with all that animal dander and spring winds), I had a dry sore throat all day.  I kept drinking water, but the next morning, I was congested.

After opening the windows, with an entire day of thunderstorms, I woke up today with burning, and watering eyes.  Between my allergy (all herbal, I now use Nature's Sunshine, ALJ, liquid form) treatment, and the tea tree oil, I should be back to my spiffy self soon.  Some day, I may have the knowledge to make my own herbal allergy relief.

I'm also sipping hot mullein tea with my elderberry infused honey.  It's good for colds, flu, and allergies.  I'm still infusing my other tea, but that is one cup a day, and also a tea to assist with allergies.

It looks like we'll have a very nice weekend coming up, so we all may get some porch time.  I'm overdue for a "grateful" list, so here goes....

Today I am thankful for:
~ Hubby offering to clean the coop
~ no rain today
~ medicinal herbs and essential oils
~ paper and pen
~ the front porch
~ the library
~ Hubby
~ last night's storm passing quickly, and no tornados
~ God's Mercy
~ my blogger friends (you all are awesome!)

We had rain/snow mix most of the day yesterday, but it was way too cold and damp to open any windows for fresh air. The "fresh air" outside didn't even feel good!

It's hard to avoid those germs when you have kids in school. Hope your daughter is very much on the mend today. You, too, of course.

Our 15 year-old is home today, but told me thank you for insisting the tea tree oil rub. She said she slept so good, and better rested. And her appetite is slowly returning. Today there is a bit of chill outside, but I'm sure glad it's not raining.

I wonder if the tea tree oil foot rub would just help with sleep in general - I will have to try it. It is so nice to be able to open the windows, although I know what you mean about allergies. We had thunder and lightning today and it made me jump! It's hard to remember it's spring. Hope you are back to your normal full-of-pep self soon!

Hi Kristina! Nice to meet you, thanks for stopping by my blog (I am behind in catching up, as I am a full time college student as well as a mom/wife).

I am going to add you to my reading list. Your blog is so pretty!!!--Rain here in Western NY, (well, sunny at the moment), windows are open here as well. Thankfully, no snow.

Blessings

Susan, I am wondering the same thing about it helping with sleep. After I put it on my own feet, I took a 2 hour nap.

Simply Linda, thanks for adding my blog to your list. I hope you enjoy it.

Is there a blog article here on the use of tea tree oil like this for illness? If not can you write the particulars, I'd really appreciate it.

So glad you got to open up the windows! We've had ours open off and on this week...depending on the rain. Today was surprisingly cool--we actually turned the heat on to knock out the chill!
Sorry to hear illness has struck again...hope everyone gets well and stays well.
I'll have to try the tea tree oil on my feet... I bet it's wonderful. We have used vapo-rub in the past for the kids. It does wonders!

Mary, I found this site: http://holisticonline.com/Aromatherapy/aroma_ess-oil-tea-tree-oil.htm It has some useful information. I'm ordering more books from the library too.

Patricia, I was going to put some of the oil in a vaporizer, but I can't find ours. I may have given it away after the kiddos got older.

Yes, nothing severe here either...yet! More storms this week. Yes, so nice to air out the house, it seemed like a longer than usual winter. Hope you are all feeling better soon.
