Caught the Virus

Although not nearly as bad as my husband got it, I caught the virus from him regardless.  I do feel taking my 4 thieves, and drinking a good amount of water kept me from getting it as bad as him.

However, I was unprepared for waking up ill, as far as food goes.  I realized, after resting for several hours, that I needed to go tend the hens.  It was the worst, cold and windy day outside as well.  Yes, I did it in pajamas and muck boots, but left the other chores for my husband after he got home.

The only soup on hand was home canned tomato soup, but I did have broth.  I always make sure we have ginger in the freezer.  You can freeze it.

How to Freeze Ginger (is in this post)

I am out in the boonies, so to ask a friend to come by was out of the question, so it all got me thinking.  I also have a limited amount of family, and they all work full time.  It's not like I can get door dash either.   I need to be better prepared in regards to food a sick person may need, when by themselves.  I am prepared otherwise.

I also, wanted to make myself homemade ginger-ale for my stomach, and had ran out of limes (no lime juice in the freezer either).  I am thinking of making a batch of the actual ginger-ale syrup, and freezing that for emergency needs.

According to my research, simple syrup can be frozen, but my homemade ginger-ale recipe contains honey too.  Has anyone had experience with freezing homemade ginger-ale syrup (with the fresh lemon/lime juices added)?

Teas, and medical supplies were on hand, but I will make sure the food/drink list is checked off and well on hand for easy access.  It all got me thinking, because I have always been the one to take care of others my entire life, but my husband was the one to tend to me when I was sick (and he was at work).

I did have our 4 thieves on hand, but to take it, you typically want something in your stomach (as it contains garlic).

I am off to make a list as I think things over.   If you have something you have on hand, that I am not thinking of, please comment below.  Or a food/medicinal item to freeze.

Hope you start to feel better soon

First off, I hope you feel much better sooner rather than later.
This is food for thought. I do keep cans of chicken noodle soup for an emergency feeling gross day. And I always have tea bags of lemon ginger herbal tea (which does help)
I really need to stock up on some things to keep on hand at all times.

I'm so sorry you got the bug too. Those are all great things to have on hand. My Grandma made her own cough syrup with rock candy and bourbon. Gosh! One spoonful of that knocked me out all night as a kid! Grandma NEVER drank either so I assume it did the same to her. :-) I hope you feel better very soon.
Blessings,
Betsy
Oh no! Get well soon.
I need to get our “sick box” ready for duty. So far so good but I usually get sick in Jan/Feb. It’s coming…🤢

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear this. At least you know how to take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest too!

Hope you are feeling better. Sounds like you really know how to treat a cold or virus. Plus, you reminded me of myself...out sick taking care of the chickens in your pajamas and boots. I've done that many times. Sure is hard to get sick when there is so much to do. My husband is not much help. :) Take care of yourself.
I always have food in the freezer, homemade vegetable beef soup is my personal go to when I am sick. I must make a batch soon as I have only one container left in the freezer. I also make scalloped potatoes and they freeze well. I have store bought ginger ale and the usual cold medicines on hand. I hope you feel better soon:)

Hi Kristina, nice to see you blogging again. I'm hoping you are on the mend, and DH also. I came to visit because I remember you had talked about 4 Thieves, and on YT there was a lady making candles with it. I have some of the ingredients, and am wondering if I could find an essential oil with them all in it already, or a recipe which brought me to your place.
Faith, thanks for stopping in, I have missed your blog too. We used to go to an area health store, where she sold essential oils, and mixed her own version of 4 thieves in a bottle. They called it "Anti-ill oil" in the store. They sold it in spray bottles to spray areas of the home to sanitize it. I make my own 4 thieves cleaning spray now. Try calling or visiting a health store that sells medicinal teas, oils, health foods, vitamins etc.
Anne in the kitchen, thanks for the tips. I do have teas on hand, but I'll be honest, I do not haev lemon ginger. I will be looking for that one next trip to town.
Debby, I really wanted a piece of toast to go with hot tea, and had no bread in the freezer. I will be better prepared now.
Leigh, thanks, we are getting some rest.
Henny Penny, I did change my pajamas after going outside. I didn't want to crawl back in bed after going to the coop, but it was work for sure. When you are sick it is no fun. Thanks.
Far Side of Fifty, I almost had some of our recent chicken and rice soup in the freezer, but that went fast. I will be looking at my recipes. Vegetable beef sounds good too.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
