Hawk

The recent cold temperatures are bringing out the hawks, looking for food.  This one landed on our goat fence.

This photo was taken from inside the house.  From the house I could not tell what animal it was, and the barn cats often sit in the exact spot, watching for rodents.

The hawk just sat there until I went out to snap a photoIt took off into the woods just as I got the second photo.  Had "bird man" Jesse seen it?  He would have chased it off much sooner than me, ha ha!

That is a beautiful hawk. I love all birds, but, having recently lost my 'peanut' bantam hen to a hawk, I only love them at a very safe distance far away. Like on your fence!

We have had hawks in the yard lately too! Some are just beautiful! But our big problem lately has been coyotes. They were chasing a rabbit through the yard Sunday. Last night they were howling like crazy. And just last week one killed someones small dog in a nearby town. Make me nervous letting my little yorkie poo out!
Kim that day it was too cold to let the ladies out, thankfully. They were inside, but I had the barn doors open too.
Susan, I worry about my hens all the time. They have many trees to hunker under and they can get inside the barns to hide too, but I'm always looking out.
Liz, my one friend lives in an area were coyotes are a huge problem. One year we could here them during kidding season, but didn't see any.

Having chickens when younger, all hawks were chicken hawks to us. Being older now, I know better, but I still can't tell one from another.
They're beautiful animals with a job to do, and I hate to kill them or chase them off, but if one has small pets or livestock, then it's our job to keep them safe, and that includes running off anything that would hurt them, including these beautiful birds.
They're a sight to see though, aren't they.
God bless.

For those with coyotes, foxes and such, we have those here too, and that's why none of our animals is ever allowed to run totally lose.
When outside they're safely in outdoor kennels similar to rabbit hutches, so they can get fresh air and sunshine, safely from predators.
God bless.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
