When you can't mow. . .

. . . let the goats mow for you.

Peanut is enjoying being rotated around the barn, for some delicious new grass to eat.  Our grass is not treated with any chemicals.

Our mower deck has already been welded, and now I'm told that the mower cannot be repaired (long sigh).  However, the goats are enjoying the fresh tall grass.  We got a good laugh yesterday.  Rue cried his eyes out while Peanut was out enjoying her grazing space.  He's so funny to listen to.  He was rolling his head backwards and stomping his feet until Peanut returned to the goat pen.  We plan to expand it and make a second fenced area, so they we can rotate the grazing areas.

I am noticing the collar and chain! I use to do this with my sheep but cows tend to eat an even sweep. When my mower went the cows were called in, but they do leave land mines behind!

Look at the gas you're saving by not using the mower AND the free fertilizer! ;)

Ha! love that last comment...the landmines made me laugh.

We're hoping after we get into a rhythm with the chickens to have a goat or calf. Unsure which yet.

read your comment over at my blog...was wondering about your connection? I'm worried that I've been using Live writer to do my posts and I haven't been re-sizing my photos. I bet that makes a difference for some; not able to see the photos.
Maybe I should NOT be lazy and resize them anyway... and see how that works.

Let me know, ok?
As for your little goat on a leash...I read about cows on pickets (?) in the Little House books (they didn't have fences then I guess) ...is this similar to that?

We just put each one on a tie-out and let them graze. You should see how fat they look after they have - ha ha ha!
