Building a Recipe Box

I bought this recipe box many years ago (old photo, hence the peaches).  I tried to contact the box company to get another one, and failed.  Then forgot about it.  Then I tried emailing again.  Again their email system is either not working or they are out of business.

I went online and could not find one suitable either, or found them too expensive.  I shopped at three stores, and looked a craft supply companies online - nothing.

What's next?  Build one myself.  Actually, Hubby volunteered.

He and one of his nephews built this for me.  It's made from oak.  They first looked at pine, but it was too thick.  Even so, it cost us less than the one on the right.  Now it's the fun part.  I may stain it, have it painted, or decoupage on it.  Not sure just yet, but I need to decide soon.  I have to do more organizing of my recipes.   I don't want to fill it up, until it's finished, but I have so many other projects going on......

Now the girls want one for themselves too.  They love it.  I will be him-hawing on this.  I am a happy gal for sure.  I've wanted another one for the last two years.

Hubby is not off "the hook" yet.  I have one more item I need built (for the kitchen anyway).

Handy guy to have around! I need to organize my recipes - I have two boxes filled with family gems and a lot of recipes that I no longer will/can eat. Time to update.

Susan, I am so glad he has this experience. The nephew had all the tools thankfully. I have some recipes I no longer make too.

What a nice husband you have. I just "unearthed" a box of recipes...a big box as in cardboard. Lots of recipes I printed off and also some on cards or just a piece of notebook paper. It will be a job for sure going through them all. Those boxes are a nice size and should come in real handy for your recipes!

Sam I am, thanks. I'm considering what rooster design to put on it next.
