Tuesday Tidbits

I've been writing lists like crazy the past few days.  Crossing them off as I go.  It's a good thing I keep a blog, or I'd easily lose track of dates of tinctures, and other things like sauerkraut.  I had to go back (ha ha!) and read my own blog to see when I started fermenting.  Someone here is anxious to have a Reuben.

My north barn door, to go out and open the chicken run door,  is stuck.  I instead, let the ladies and gent out to free range vs. play in the run.  It was either that or hiking over the fencing to let them in and out for the day.

Praying of course the fox and hawk were busy elsewhere.  The sun was shining wonderfully, but the wind kept the chill in the air.  I got about 3 minutes of porch time, with Hubby, but it was a cold 3 minutes.  It was nice to get my time outside though.

It was to be in the 60's today, but as I kept checking the weather, I hauled my cart to the barn and loaded up the firewood.  I am happy to say, all electric heat is off and the fire is keeping the chill out of the house now.

Thank goodness for Mother Nature to help lower my electric bill.  We have the highest electric in the county.  I think people need to gather and fight against their prices.  I really do.  I think they are robbing people who do not have gas or propane to heat with (it's the way the house was built, and we just haven't had the extra cash to change that. . . some day, some day...).

I used my last comfrey poultice I had in the freezer.  I'll be whipping up several today, using dried comfrey.  I took a spill yesterday and I now have a bruise and a bit of pain.

For once (and that's not the case this morning, sigh...), one of the girls actually listened to me, and did some dishes.  However, she loaded the dishwasher and slopped water all over the floor.  I didn't see it.

In my zip-zap motion, moving about and getting chores done, I slipped in the water (wearing slippers, no pun intended), and down I went.  My right arm caught a wooden kitchen chair, slamming the side upper post into my under arm.  Down I went with the chair.  The most pain is now just below my underarm where it is bruised.  My elbow, wrist, and one knee are sore, but the most pain is under the arm.

Today the weather man was right and wrong.  It is raining, but it will only get up to the low 50's (not 60's).  I'm so glad I restocked the wood.  It's not fun to haul it in the rain and mud.

Mondays are truly "bad" days for Hubby.  I try not to think about bad things that haven't happened, but he dreads going to work on Monday, and I dread his mood when he arrives home.  So.  I made one of his favorite meals - homemade sloppy joes and sweet potato fries.  It was good. Mm.   In the process, I realized how much I appreciate my garden.

I cut into two sweet potatoes to find them rotten.  In all the sweet potatoes I grew, and stored in my bin inside over winter, I only lost one very small one.  All of them were stayed fresh.  I really miss fresh sweet potatoes, and everything else that comes with it.

Ouch! That sounds like a nasty fall! I used to slide through the puddles around the dogs' water bowl - more goes on the floor than in the dog - until I put a small throw rug down to absorb most of the splash. We haven't had snow, for which I am very thankful, but the temperatures overnight are still in the teens. Let me tell you, that is really old by now. Your sweet potatoes lasted quite a long time!
Susan, it was a nasty fall. Thankfully, I do my sciatica yoga stretches regularly, and I am sure it is helping keep things in order. You are right about this winter. Sheesh. Yes, the sweet potatoes last much longer than the other potatoes (so happy for that).

Weather has been crazy here too - cold one day, warm the next. Rain one day, not the next, then once a week, a bit of snow. Crazy. And yes, our heat has been higher this winter than any previous winter we lived in this house too, and it's energy efficient. :o(
Hope you've recovered from your fall. I often say I could trip over an ant, and I could.
I go to rehab every Tuesday and Thursday now. It leaves me very sore, but I'm going to keep up with it. The VA mailed me my new RX eyeglasses. The Fedex driver left it on the front porch instead of on the side porch (where packages are safer) according to my online account directions, and it's gone. Now to go through the entire rigamarole of having the VA give me new ones again. It took 6 months this time. Grrr...
Still, I guess it's better than having no help through the VA at all.
Prayers everyone is having a great week, and a safe one too.
God bless.

RB, I hope you feel better, and get your eyeglasses soon. That is terrible that they are gone.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
