Weekend Travel

The reason my laundry was up before the sunrise last Friday?  A college campus tour.   After traveling 260 miles round trip and paying $12.50 in road toll fees, we are pretty sure our next child will be attending college there.

The Hubs drove.  Need I say more?  If my brother and sister-in-law were driving behind us, they would have been gasping.

On our way home, we passed an A & W drive-in.  Remember those?  We had one in our home town growing up.  We passed it, Hubby pulled off the road, then pulled a "Dukes of Hazard" straight across all lanes of traffic, and up (yes, up) the the entrance to the drive-in.  Needless to say, any projectiles in the car went flying.  People were staring at us.  I was shrinking in my seat and trying to recover, and make sure we were still all okay.  So after that, I really needed a weekend off.

We went camping.

The weather was a cooler and so perfect for camping.  Perfect for a warming, snuggling campfire, and perfect for hot coffee in the early morning sunrise.

 Delicious dinners and campfire s'mores.

Although hiking trails were wet and muddy, we drove to the lake and sat awhile, soaking up the beauty, and filling up our rejuvenation tanks.

 Lakeside reading.

 Early evening game of cards.

 Reading, writing, and hot coffee.

 Delicious breakfast.

 More writing.

 More coffee.

Our box of walnut shell fire starters.

Last campfire.

Early morning, last chance relaxation, before returning home.

Over the weekend I was complimented on my jewelry.

Mom's spoon ring she gifted me a few years ago.  I love it and wear it often.  In fact, it's not been off my hand for several weeks now.  Rings like this are my muse for writing.  I write better with them on my fingers for some reason.

A pair of silver earrings that I wear often too.  I have gotten so many compliments on these too.

We were back home Sunday night and all our camping gear is put away, laundry washed, dried and folded, and ready for a week of work again.  I'll be heading out to the garden to dig up carrots today.  Then back inside for more chopping and fermenting of zucchini, onions, bell peppers and hot peppers.  I have no idea what dinner will be yet.  Maybe something with eggs.

Hubby's truck is in the driveway getting repairs.  He had to borrow my car today to get to work.  So, I'll be tinkering around the house and garden today.  I'm out of canning jars, so I won't be canning today.  Possibly tomorrow though.  We aren't done yet.

Sounds like a perfect get-away, very relaxing after the 'Dukes of Hazard' incident(didn't they jump into their car via the windows? - hubby didn't do that too I hope!!!)
I often feel more creative when I'm wearing a nice piece of jewelry.
Emma, I think Hubby would if he could, ha ha!

I think my hubby has been know to pull a stunt like that in the car! lol.. So glad you finally made it camping. What a relaxing spot. Love the spoon ring. I haven't seen one of those in years.
I am out of rings for canning.
Liz, if it wasn't for Hubby taking more of my salsa to work, I wouldn't have to can more. I told him the next time he takes it, he better be selling it, ha ha!

What a nice break - and you deserve it! How many cans have you canned? Every time I think I have canned alot, I stop and think about the amount you can. Then I shut up... :)
Susan, I had to laugh. I don't know how many jars I've canned, but it's a lot. I am about to can more zucchini salsa tomorrow. Then possible a conserve if I am up to it.

Kristina, like your hubby, I too would have pulled a "Dukes of Hazard" to get to that A&W for a tall frosty mug o' rootbeer! just sayin' lol!
Ha ha! We did get there and enjoyed it. The sign said they were only open for 16 more days of the season too.

Cograts on your child going to college! Nothing better than that for having lots of options later. Good camping, I missed that this summer...

What a great weekend! If I were near I would have gone with you! LOL! I love the "camp" stitchery in your pictures. Did you do all that? Great stitching!
Ah, A&W....remember the little baby mugs you could get for the kids? So glad you got a chance to get away as you have all been working hard this summer.
Yes, all the stitching is my handiwork - cloth napkins.

Nancy, unfortunately this daughter will be in debt in order to go to college. The older two have their tuition pretty much paid for via the military.

Our kids got some grants/scholarships, and students loans at a very low interest. It's good investment. All of our girls did consolidation loans after graduation, that saved a bunch...

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
