Weekend Updates

Did we survive the weekend?

Friday was clean up, grocery shop, everything day.  Saturday was get up early and tidy up the last of the last, join up with some bikers (sounds so funny after all these years of just wearing muck boots), and take a ride to the lake.  We attended a fundraiser for a co-worker of Hubby's (stage 3 cancer, in his 30's and has kids).

Sunday we hosted a breakfast for Hubby's family and friends.  He made his famous breakfast burritos, I whipped up a sausage and egg souffle (overnight dish), and I could not let the young ones down, so I made chocolate chip waffles too.  However, I was greatly disappointed with the turn out.  All that cleaning and cooking and only 4 people showed up (when 12 or more were expected).  No young ones showed up either.  There were many more to be here as well, but over the weekend two babies were born into the family - one on the 4th and one on the 5th.

Neither one of us got any sleep.  The dogs woke us up at 11pm, then again at 2:30am.  They are not used to the windows open, so whenever a car passed, they were on edge.  Needless to say, I'm sleep deprived.

Rain arrived yesterday after Hubby mowed.  And wouldn't you know?  The mower broke down and repairs took up 1 hour.  I wanted to be working in the garden or weeding, but after cleaning up and dressing up for the breakfast, and with a planned ride to visit his cousin later, I didn't really want to get dirty then clean up again.  We never took our ride, nor visited his cousin, and we were exhausted.

I'm losing my gardening mojo, just from this family busyness, and from the lack of energy.  I'm hoping an herbal tea will help today.  I do like to visit with Hubby's family, but it's been non-stop, and he's not made any time for just us, the garden, nor the kids.  I understand, but I need balance.

Ah, yes, the illusive balance! Striking the happy medium. When you find it, will you let me know?

You've had so much going on in your families lately (not all of it happy) that you're understandably wanting to get back to "normal." Here's hoping it all settles back into pleasant calmness soon.

The lack of sleep is never good so might be worth catching up with some sleep and then the jobs. Tomorrow is another day... Take care.

RB, thank you. The guy has to take off work for 3 months without pay for chemo treatments.

Mama Pea, I haven't even touched a crochet hook or knitting needle in about 3 weeks - scary. It used to be my relaxing time on the porch after gardening and whatnot. Not so for. I am hoping for some calmness soon.
