More Tomatoes. . .

We opened a jar of Cowboy Candy.  Wow! Even I liked it, but you have to like hot peppers to enjoy it.  We tasted it with organic cream cheese and a cracker, but they would be delicious topped on a burger of sorts too.  Hubby topped his chicken with homemade BBQ sauce with them too.

In one last trip to get a few more items for the homecoming attire, we stopped and picked up 10# of organic beef, and one (almost) 12 lb. organic turkey.  That pretty much emptied the pocket book.

Hubby and I enjoyed a picnic in the park after his second doctor appointment, and was due to return to work today, so we played hookie all weekend.

...which meant I did not go into the garden one iota.

And this happened.

I told Hubby I was heading out to pick tomatoes and would be back in before the Bengals started playing the second quarter.

Ha ha ha ha, he he he he he, ho ho ho....

It took 4 trips to get it all inside.  I brought in a large basket of green peppers, which I expected and needed.

I also brought in 70.11# of tomatoes.  That brings our grand tally to 458.85# this year.  That doesn't include the grape tomatoes that I haven't picked yet either.   Some plants are pretty much done, but there are a few too many that are too stubborn to die

We've made it through another homecoming weekend, so things should return to "normal" around here.  The outdoor work calls.  Hubby is at work.  No more playing hookie for a while.  Although I may steal an hour and head off on a motorcycle ride tonight.  I'd like to deliver a few tomatoes.

Oye.

I'm gonna need more canning jars.

It got cold last night, but not cold enough to frost.    It's a chilly 41°F out  this morning.

I simply cannot imagine dealing with that many pounds of tomatoes in one year's harvest! There shouldn't be any need for you to purchase a single tomato product all year, that's for sure. But what a lot of work you've put into your stocking up. Exhausting, but so much better than your garden failure last year, huh? You've certainly used everything you've grown . . . and then some!

I cannot even wrap my mind around nearly 500 pounds of tomatoes. It sounds as if things are getting back to normal. Glad to hear your hubby is feeling better. What the heck are you going to do with all your grape tomatoes!?!

Mama Pea, I have to make ham bone soup today, to make more room in my freezer for more tomatoes, ha ha!

Susan, I am dehydrating the grape tomatoes that don't get eaten now. I can add them to pizza, soup etc. over winter.
