Einkorn Flour Tortillas

In the past, I have made homemade tortillas using white organic flour.

First, I made flour tortillas with organic/non-gmo canola oil.  You can read about it here.

Downside of making them with the canola?  You use a lot more oil than in the einkorn tortillas I'm about to tell you about, and the smell of the oil stinks up the kitchen.

Second, I made them with real lard.  You can read that post here.

A huge bonus in making these?  You make them on a griddle, and they use no oil on the griddle itself.  Just the lard in the tortilla.  Very easy to make and less mess (and no smell).

Simple Living

When we moved to this homestead, I had no idea that I would be changing in many ways.  I went from city girl, to farmstead girl.

I've come to find new ways to simplify our lives, live healthier, and in a much more self-sufficient manner.

Beam me up Scotty!

I lied.  We have red tomatoes already.  I was hoping for a small break in between what is harvested, but God has another plan, ha ha!

I've been so tired, and worn out, and have not even had "tea time" on the porch lately.  Today, I'm making time.  I need the energy restored.

I was walking from the coffee pot to the computer with a cup of coffee, and said to myself, "beam me up Scotty."  My 19 year-old was shocked, her eyes went wide, and she asked, "what did you just say?"  Ha ha!  She was surprised I knew a Star Trek catchphrase.

If you are wondering, I made two batches of homemade flour tortillas.  I made these with 8 tortillas per batch, so it was a bit time consuming, but delicious.

Busy Kitchen

I started the day yesterday by mixing up and baking a carrot cake for Son .  It calls for baby food carrots.  We love it because it's dense.  I am able to locate organic, non-gmo baby food at our local store

I made a batch of homemade tortillas with lard.

My puppies are now officially way over board spoiled.

Homemade Flour Tortillas with Lard ~ From Pile to File ~ Fire Powder

I mentioned a while back that I would try another tortilla recipe, but this time I used lard.  I forgot I even had the recipe until I was looking for my whole wheat pancake recipe one day.  Tip:  Tortilla presses are more for corn tortillas (or masa), so you'll need a rolling pin for this recipe.

This recipe got all thumbs up from the family.  The tortillas are softer and we all like these better than the tortillas I have been making with organic canola oil.

Homemade Flour Tortillas

If you have not made homemade flour tortillas you really should try them.  They are fairly easy to make.  Shop in the organic section of your grocery store, or visit a health store (or online) for the ingredients.

Mix 3 cups of organic/non-gmo all-purpose flour with 1 tsp. salt (I use a sea salt) and 1 tsp. aluminum free baking powder.  I mix this slowly in my mixer using the bread dough blade.

Chicken Tacos ~ Homemade Tortillas

I decided to take advantage of all this rain, and throw more flower seeds down.  If there is one thing we'll get this summer, it will be the most colorful flower beds yet.

With our roasted chicken yesterday, I decided to try a
