Homemade Gift Ideas for the Holidays

I went back through my blog recently, and compiled a post today to share many handmade gifts I made over the years.  Hopefully, you will find an idea here, or have one to share.

What I gifted in 2015:  Christmas 2015

Handmade Hand Lotion (they loved this!)  I ended up putting it in 4 oz. canning jars to gift.  I do suggest adding the preservative for gifting too.

(shows everything handmade/homemade I gifted last Christmas, including herbs from my herb garden)

Make a Knitting Basket Christmas Tree Ornament
I made these with small baskets I purchased at our local dollar store.  This year I cannot find them.  However, Red Heart Yarn (online) now has a pattern to crochet a basket for this type of ornament ( free patterns:  Crochet Basket Ornament and Knitted Basket Ornament ).

Handmade Christmas Tree ornaments (I have a few posts to give you ideas of what I made over several years).

Instructions on how to make a plastic canvas Santa money holder

Crocheted Earrings (and more dishcloths)

Homemade Cinnamon-Honey Butter (a big winner also).

Crocheted dishcloths in many patterns
Crocheted Hot Pad sets

Crocheted cup cozies, cup coasters or placemats (or sets)

 Crocheted "rosebud" dish scrubbies

Bookmarks made with recycled stamps.
These bookmarks were fun to make and I gifted these one year too.

Handmade note cards
(use photos, fabric, wallpaper etc.)

Floral Dish Scrubbies (and other ideas)
I found the free pattern online:  Scrubby Posey

Gifts I made Christmas 2012 - homemade jelly, granola, handmade ornaments.  I may have put some crocheted dishcloths in those too.  I recycled wooden clementine boxes.

Homemade Vanilla Extract

Homemade Taco Mix, with a recipe for a salsa dip included
(I recycled baby food jars, painted the lids, and included a handmade magnet on top of each lid made from a recycled bottle cap embellished with crochet).

Crocheted Soap Saver Bags

Handmade pin cushions using scrap fabric and recycled punch bowl cups.

You are just about the crafty-est, busy-est lady I know. And also most talented! I just love that Christmas tree ornament that is the basket with the yarn in it! So appropriate for a knitter.
Mama Pea, thanks! I went looking for some more tiny baskets, but so far have not found any. If I do, I'm going to make more.

All I got to say is WOW! That is quite a list you got there.
Kim, I hope it gave you some ideas too. I am not sure about this year yet. I have some items made, but I'm also stumped on what to do for a few people. And of course time is a factor.

Lots of great ideas for homemade gifts, IMO - the best gifts of all because they include a part of your time.
God bless.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
