Winston Update ~ Jam ~ Leftover Chicken

(Winston, playing under the rug during a snowstorm)

I don't know if you remember or not, but last winter (before last Christmas) we found this cat in one of our barns - declawed, neutered, and the best behaved, loving cat I ever met.

Unfortunately, with 3 indoor cats already, and two that are males, spraying was a huge problem.  Unable to find a home for him myself, he went to a shelter about 1 hour away. I don't think I even blogged about it either.  It was just a sad moment for me.

I named him Winston.  I loved this cat, and taking to the shelter was the hardest thing for me.  Now Tiger loves to visit me, but Winston was different.  He let me hold him all the time.  I cried when I had to take this guy there.

This week however (and months later), I found out he was adopted into a home with no cats, and is doing fine.   Although I do miss Winston, that was awesome news.

And it begins - canning.  June did not leave without the start of this year's canning season.

I canned reduced sugar, wild black raspberry jam.  I forgot how many berries it takes to make 4 - 1/2 pint jars (4-5 days of picking).  I also canned reduced sugar, strawberry jam.

Got leftover chicken?

I took my leftover chicken, and cut it into shreds.  I tossed it into the crock pot.  I then made a batch of homemade mushroom soup and tossed that in, added a bit of homemade garlic powder and topped it off with goat's milk.  I did not add crushed crackers.  The only reason I did not make cream of chicken soup for this sandwich, was because I already had veggie stock open.  I needed to use it up.

Then in the garden we had more sugar snap peas, broccoli, one green pepper, and a zucchini.  All were cooked with some onion and garlic for the side.

So glad to hear about Winston. Congrats on your canning. I wish I had your garden!

I would love the recipe for the homemade mushroom soup! Such great news about Winston - I am always drawn to the adult cats in a shelter. Kittens are cute, but with an adult cat, you know what you're getting. I am going to try and hold myself down this year and just can tomato products. I have enough other stuff canned to last a few years!
It's always nice to hear when the strays get adopted! I used to make my own "CREAM OF" soups--they're good too!
I am interested in reduced sugar jam. I was given a small jar a few years back.
I need to look up some recipes before the figs come!

Happy Fourth!

I am so sad that some people can be so uncaring and just 'dump off' a cat or dog with out regard for the poor animals safety... It just breaks my heart.
I am so glad to hear that Winston found a good forever home...
We love our 'critters' just wish everyone did...

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
