Weeds ~ Raccoons

Hubby and I spent the 4th working.  He mowed (which is still not done), and I weeded.  I got a dent into it anyway.  It was a high of 92°F and a higher heat index - hot, hot, and hot.  Rain is in the forecast today again too.

Hubby was the first to try out my homemade Aloe-Plantain cubes for sunburn relief too.  He said it felt great and this morning he's not complaining.

We've started on restocking our split wood again.  There was a dent made into that job too on the 4th.  We retired early, and put the last air conditioner in finally.  Whew!

As far as handiwork goes, I managed to finish up a pot holder set.  I had to stick with small projects on my humid porch.  We've even put a fan out there now.

Random Tidbits

I had every intention of weeding Monday morning, but Youngest actually got out of bed early and we had some porch time.   Truth be told, I was not running on all cylinders and the "gas tank" was on drizzle.

The more we sipped coffee and chatted, the more I talked myself right out of weeding.  The weather said rain at 11am, so I detoured my work possibilities.

Then later, the rain was delayed, and I was already showered and cleaned up.  The good news is the red raspberries are coming in nicely this year.  Yum.  I took a quick look-see at the garden and the zucchini is on, and boy it looks like we'll have a boat load this summer.

Island Time

What do you do when there is a heat index warning out?  Well, you hop on the Harley and ride in it. Oye.  We participated in a bike run, which involved going to the island.  One of them.  Our favorite one.

The picture is us leaving on the ferry.  On the bike.  It was hot.  Very hot.  We survived.  We saw a few ambulances take a few people away, but we survived.  We also tucked in early.  The motel people put our air conditioner on 63°F. Boy it felt awesome.

Heat Wave Returns ~ Random Tidbits

The heat wave has returned.  It'll be a hot one this weekend.

My broody hen is still in her roost.  She cackles at me every time I go out there.  Like she's telling me not to take her egg. She may be sitting on more than one.  I'll have to gently check.

Radish Hashbrowns

New for me to try - Radish Hash Browns.  Just brown the edges of some onion in butter, then add radishes.  Cook until soft on the inside. Cover if necessary, add salt and pepper, thyme and paprika.

The taste test results?

Broody Hen

There is no way I'm catching up on the weeds too soon.  No way.  The peas will just have to learn to live with their neighborly weeds this year.  Or at least until I can get things tidy again.  And that may take the rest of the summer, so it may not happen.  It's very wet out there yet, and there are a lot of weeds.

I have a very broody hen this year.  First time ever. I've let her sit on her egg(s), but I need advice from you all.  What do I do when the egg (if it does) hatch?  Do I take the chick from her and bring it in with a heat lamp?  Or do I separate her and the chick and leave here out in the second coop?  Would love to get your input on this.  This is the first time for this to happen for us, and it would be neat to see nature in progress.

What 5:30am looks like from our place this morning.  Another beautiful day.  Here's hoping I get another section of garlic weeded.  Yesterday it took me three trips to clean up my giant weed piles just from one variety of garlic.

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weekend went by way too fast.  Yesterday flew past.  Hubby had to work, so I did more carpet shampooing, took a short motorcycle ride, and expected more rain.  Thankfully, we didn't get any rain.  Today I'm joining Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom.

On the breakfast plate . . .

Strawberry pancakes, coffee
