Wow! October is here already

Wow, the time has really flown by, and it would take a very long post to update every single thing.  Goodness. Thank you all for your advice on recent post question.

Jalapenos (above photo) and bell peppers where sliced and frozen.  Not as many as last year, but enough for two people.

I canned blueberry-basil vinegar for the first time.  We will be using it for homemade salad dressing.

I froze another 4 1/2 pints of roasted cherry tomato sauce.  It will take up some freezer space, as I used wide mouth jars this time, but boy it's delicious.

More apples were canned into applesauce.  I have more apples to process, but have not decided on what yet.

My applesauce is without any sugar or seasoning, and it is delicious and versatile.  I use it in place of oil when baking, as well as enjoying it as is.

I have also (a first for me this year), canned Sweet Apple Cider Butter (A Ball canning recipe).

I have more apples to can yet.

Much of the San Marzano tomatoes have been processed and canned, but there are more to process (tomato sauce, taco sauce, bbq sauce, tomato basil soup, pizza sauce, tomato paste etc.).

As for our winter squash, we have yet to harvest due to the drought.  Many of our butternut squash are only about 2 inches big (no joke), and we have zero spaghetti squash, when we typically have 8-9 to roast this time of year.

Fall time tinctures are being started.  Mullein was started too.  I also dehydrated a few others.

Believe or not!  We got our first camping trip in!  We have not had the chance (for one reason or another) since fall of 2023.  We road bicycles all over on this trip too.  Boy is was overdue, and so relaxing and fun at the same time.

Finished this baby blanket.  It will be gifted.  I have started another blanket pattern.

Thankfully we got some rain to relieve us of the drought we are having.  However, it is very dry here, and there have been field fires in the area.

Most of the house has been powered washed now, and it looks very nice again.  I do have another rose bed to trim up, and so some deadheading of flowers, but progress is being made.

The new chicken coop is almost done.  We have a few last bits of work to do on it.

There have been two deaths in our extended family.  Both were buried within the same week.  Sadly, funerals are simply family reunions.  I am reaching out to a cousin on my husband's side, and hope to stay in touch.  She is such a bundle of positive energy (77 years old).

Busy busy around your homestead! Everything sounds so delicious, Kristina. Sorry to hear of recent family deaths and you’re right - how funerals are just family reunions which is the glue that keeps family connected. Just the way it’s always been.

Glad you were able to get away. Have a wonderful Fall week.

You have been wonderfully productive! The blueberry-basil vinegar and roasted cherry tomato sauce sound really interesting. And the baby blanket is lovely. Enjoy your autumn days!
Debby, thank you. Yes, funerals are very emotional, but the positive thing was meeting more family members we had not been in touch with or even met (for me anyway). Some are not on social media either.
Wow you got lots of preserving done! Good for you! What a pretty baby blanket.
Leigh, the vinegar recipe is a ball canning recipe. The roasted tomato sauce is something I found by googling what to do with a large amount (ha ha ha!) of cherry tomatoes. Both very easy to make. Thanks Leigh.
Far Side of Fifty, thank you

Sorry to hear of the losses you have endured, but it looks as though your homestead is flourishing and I am thankful you were able to camp a bit.
Hi Dolly, it's been a very busy canning season this year. We did not expect to get so many apples at the same time with tomatoes. Crazy busy.
Thanks Carol, it was nice to have a weekend break from "work" around here.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
