Heat Returns ~ Infused Honey ~ Barter

The area farmers are taking out their crops, and the dust is as thick as fog around here.  My eyes burn when I work outside (trying to stay inside for that).  It's very dry, and very hot right now.  Temperatures are soaring to the upper 80's.  It was 88°F the other day and the heat continues.  If we are lucky, the rain will finally be here this week.

We picked the very last of the tomatoes.  What is left on the plants are rotting before even ripening.  Very strange year overall.  We are thankful for what harvest we are getting.

Exhausted.  I, ha ha! Am. Exhausted.  Taking a few days off canning, and trying to catch up with cleaning, dusting, putting things away, errands, sweeping, dishes, and laundry......

My favorite morning reading, is called "Just Breathe" Devotions and Prayer for the Overwhelmed Heart (and I am loving all of them so far).

When we went camping a month ago, we went to a Honey Festival and picked up 4 different infused honey concoctions to try.  We got to taste many of them before buying (look at all that goldenrod!!).

Anyway, the lemon infused honey is very good on our homemade apple salad (any salad with lemon juice from a real lemon and honey will taste great with it).  We have three more to try (and the hopes to infuse our own if the time and effort is worth the flavor).  The lemon infused will be great for all medicinal teas, and any teas really.

Do you infuse honey?  I bought lemon balm infused honey from an apothecary, and it did not have any lemon balm flavor or smell (would be better off to infuse it myself).  Any thoughts or experiences with infused honey?

I will be trying a few on baked oat breakfasts, yogurt and other foods.

After we cut a few slices, ha ha!

We did a barter with a friend of ours.  She bakes sourdough breads for fun (on her days off work), and gives it to friends.  She makes all sorts, and crackers.  We exchanged a jar of apple butter for a loaf of her organic ingredient made brioche sourdough bread.  Oh my goodness!  The best bread, and so glad I did not have to bake it.  It was a drive to go pick it up, but a well worth "road trip."

Local honey is the best. I haven’t tried infused honey before. That bread does look good. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. ☔️
Bartering is a fun thing to do.
We are overrun with tomatoes and I am making either tomato sauce or tomato paste every day. Even with that I put an SOS on our neighborhood facebook group asking if anyone would like some of the cherry tomatoes. I had 2 takers, and I am so glad.
Debby, we really do love the lemon infused honey for salads and teas. Yes, the bread is not a tiny loaf either. Real, organic ingredients and we love it. We don't eat bread that often either.
Anne in the kitchen, our cherry tomato plants were dying off when I picked the San Marzano tomatoes. We definitely had our share of those too. Glad you found takers.
From the pile of dishes it looks like you have been busy!
Far Side of Fifty, it's been that way about every other day around here. Trying to get the tomatoes out of the garden before the frost arrives.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
