Goat Coats ~ Helping Others

I'm not sure how these survived in a tote this long, but these goat coats were taken to an area animal sanctuary yesterday.  I actually found one more after I took the photo to send to them.  Anyway, the zebra coats were made and sewn by myself.  I know, I am shocked myself.  I can still see the baby goats (kids) running around looking like baby zebras, ha ha!

I dug out my Mom's sewing machine and got to it one day.  The pink one (store bought) was for our very first female Lamancha goat.  The zebra ones were cut from old pajamas from the kids (recycled I should say).  I sewed velcro straps on,  and wah-la, goat coats for the kid goats when it was cold out.

The temperatures here are to dip into a brutal cold spell starting Monday, and the sanctuary has many goats, and kid goats.  They asked the public for help, and we decided to give them all 4 goat coats.

We have no plans to raise dairy goats again, but we do have the means  (and  know how)  to do it, if we decide to do it again.  I can always sew new coats, so we are not sad to donate them.  We are glad we can help them.

What a great thing to do. Those coats for kids are so helpful when it's really cold. I figure I'd rather have them put their energy into growing rather than trying to stay warm. I can just picture kids in zebra coats!
Goodness how adorable those baby goats must have looked. I have not ever seen this so I looked it up and saw some pretty cute images of goats in coats. What a sweet thing to do!
I have never heard of goat coats but would love to see kids in the zebra ones.
Leigh, when we had the zebra ones on the kids one year, I got a good laugh every trip to the barn. So cute! Yes, the coats really help them stay warm.
Anne in the kitchen, they were so cute in the zebra coats. Ah, good memories for sure.
Debby, the coats really help the little kids when they are born during a cold spell or early spring when it can be cold as well. Thanks.

Goat coats! I love it! How fun to see them running and around and I'm glad they will keep some little kids warm in this cold snap. It's already dropped about 40 degrees her in the last 5 hours. I just took Zoey out for her bedtime potty time and just about froze. And it's just going to get worse.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Betsy, I'm glad we could help them. I do miss raising goats, but I get that my husband doesn't want the extra work. We do have a lot to do around here yet in the way of home repairs/updates, new raised beds and more. You may be getting the cold temps before us. They are telling us that Alaska will be warmer than us next week.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
