Skunk Odor

I have to share this, as the skunks are on the move at night here.  Something upset one the other night and it sprayed near the house.  I woke up at 5am to a nasty odor lingering into the house.

I got out my diffuser and put even amounts (per my diffuser, as some only hold so much water) of ecualyptus, lemon and tea tree essential oils.

The diffuser rids the indoor skunk odor that lingers in through a window etc.

However, once I had that odor removed, I went outside to let the chickens out and smelled not one iota of skunk smell.  Strange how it can spray, and the odor wafts into the house, and by the time I got out there, there was no odor.

I was prepared to mix up a skunk spray and spray under windows, but I did not have to do that.  Anyway, the essential oil trick works great.

I do not envy the skunk smell. We have some critters in our yard but I have never seen a skunk around here____yet!
Anne in the kitchen, we rarely see skunks here. Most of the time we smell them once in a while but that's about it thankfully.
Wow that’s good! I know when I’m driving and we smell skunk, I roll down the windows to let the inside of the car air out and then the skunk smell is gone. Never knew that trick until my son told me years ago.
Debby, we pretty much do that too here, but we are thankful that we don't see them too often.

Completely off subject: this is a follow up to a comment on a previous blog. I made stuffed spinach/pesto shells the other day. It was a request for a friend’s birthday. Anyway, we previously wrote about making pesto and saving it as “ice” cubes which I have done before. This time, I used Jacques Pepin’s suggestion to blanch the basil leaves before using in the pesto to keep them green. It worked! I even forgot to defrost the pesto cubes before making the shells so I microwaved them and they stayed green!
Katie C, thanks that is good to know.
I suppose it would work well if you could stand the smell of the essential oils. My husband is so sensitive to the heavy odors of essential oils that it is hard for him to breathe.
Far Side of Fifty, I diffused while I was the only one home, but Lysol didn't work. It was the only way to get the smell out of the house.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
