Christmas is over ~ Frozen Pipes ~ Anniversary

The storm delayed my surprise anniversary getaway, but we still went despite arriving home on Christmas day.  We had zero company Christmas day anyway.  The kids were all with other family this year.

Anyway, we stayed in a Bed & Breakfast, he had flowers, chocolates, and a cheese and meat board all arranged for us.  What a guy!

Also, he bought me a new very warm coat you see in the photo, but I have to return it for a smaller size.

We returned home to no hot water.  Everyone in the state was either battling no power, or no power and water, or pipes that had already burst.

We finally got all of our pipes cleared, and despite heat tape, it still froze with this treacherous weather.

With zero family to spend time with this Christmas, I made Mom's sour cream softies.  The temperatures are slowly getting warmer, but so many people suffered damage to their homes with this storm.  I'm glad it's over and warmer days are in the future.

What an amazing anniversary surprise! I wish my husband would think about things like that. I would love it if he surprised me with a getaway. I hate to hear of the frozen pipes and other weather related problems for people. I am thankful that our wood stove has kept up with the cold and that our pipes and power have been good the entire time.

The coat looks just what you need this winter. I treated myself to a new down coat last month. Great decision! Wishes for heat, light, water and a happy new year.

Glad you were able to get away for at least a little celebrating. The flowers are beautiful. We were without power for 19 hours the day our daughter and her family arrived from Virginia. We have a generator but it doesn't run the water pump... so no water. We are very used to pipes freezing so we take a lot of precautions to prevent it and most times we are successful. I hope you weather gets warmer soon. Happy New Year!

Carol, we also have a wood stove, but the wind was so terrible during this last storm, and the worst weather temps, it was bound to happen. There were so many people without either water or power, it was crazy.

Buttercup, I was able to get a smaller size coat. It was crazy at the store trying to return the other one though. Thanks.

Debi, we also prepare for no water when the there could be no power. I filled a lot of gallon jugs, and also have 7 gallon containers for the bathrooms for flush water.
