Mullein Tincture

I finally made it to the store to get vodka to make a mullein tincture.

I used fresh mulleinI've read that you do not want to cut more than 40% of your plant, but I am typically careful not to over harvest mine.

I have mullein growing in a pot.  It's invasive, so I don't put it in the herb garden directly.  The leaves are fuzzy and soft.

My tincture will we ready in 6 weeks.  I did a small batch with this to add to my medicine cupboard. Now, I have read that it will last up to 2 years if kept in the refrigerator, and other sources stated 7-10 years.  I'm pretty sure it won't be in my cupboard for 7 years.  Someone typically gets a sinus infection around here, a cough, or a cold, or a sore throat.  My mullein does not have flowers yet, but you can make a tincture with the flowers too.  I plan to make the next one with mullein flowers and elderberry flowers.

I'm quite impressed how my tea infusion of elderberry flowers and mullein helped me cure my own sinus infection.  I knew that thyme tea will break up mucus, and that nettle was helpful with allergies, but I'm wondering if mullein is better for allergies now.

I'll keep experimenting, and researching, and reading books.  There are answers out there.  I just have to find them all.   Then I have to remember them all.  I read that this tincture can be used for migraines too.

In times gone by, you would have been the esteemed witch doctor everyone went to for healing!

Did you see my post where I showed a picture of my "interesting" plant/weed in my yard. I didn't cut it and it is over 7 feet tall....it is mullein and the leaves are huge! It has a 2 foot stem of flowers and side flowers now too. I only have one plant that I know of but it could be more if it flowers? I heard the leaves are good for dyeing too.
Mama Pea, Hubby said the same thing, ha ha!
Sam I Am it will spread. The flowers and the leaves are useful. I am waiting on mine to flower so I can utilize the flowers.

This is all very good to know. I wonder where I'd get mullein around here.
God bless.

RB, it does not grow wild on our property, but you can purchase seeds online from Horizon seeds (medicinal herbs).

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
