Ground Chickory Root -~ Herbal Coffee ~ Tidbits

There are some days I have the hankering for a coffee in the middle of the day.  I don't buy decaffeinated coffee.  Although, I noticed our grocer just started carrying an organic decaffeinated coffee.

I've known for a long time that chickweed root can be ground for a coffee flavored, healthy drink, but haven't grown it here (yet).  We've see a few around, but not enough to dig up.

I ordered some Chicory to try instead.

I read that chickweed root is like pulling cement.  And sometimes it's better not to plant at all.

I had the taste test.  I used the suggested 1/2 teaspoon of roasted powder (the root was sold out at the time of purchase).  I used a disposable tea-bag.

It was very good.  Much better, in my opinion, than dandelion "coffee."  I find dandelion coffee or tea a bit bitter.  This is not as strong as black coffee, but a pretty good flavor.  I liked it.

Like all herbs, it's best to research it, and read up on any side effects it may have.  Especially if you have allergies.  I have also found that you can purchase "herbal coffees" online, which contain herbs, fruits and other ingredients.  I wonder if coffee houses will start carrying them?  The last time Hubby and I went out on a date for coffee, I heard a woman as if they sold "herbal coffee."

Thanks for following along with my herbal journey.  I'm not sure what's next. I love my afternoon teas, and will soon start making iced teas again.  I love adding different herbs to it.

Today the kids have one last day of school before their spring break.  I think I am the only person that has not planned a huge Easter dinner.

Nope, there will be no big Easter dinner here either. It's just me, myself and I but my son and grandson will be coming later so we'll about one then...maybe. I always heard chicory root coffee was bitter so now I know different.
Sam I Am, I have made dandelion "coffee" from dandelions here in the property, and dandelion tea from stores. Both to me were bitter. This was actually pretty good. It's strong, so you use just a little. I used 1/2 tsp. for 1 mug of water.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
