January 2025 Comes to an End

January 2025 comes to an end, and I am thrilled to have met my own goals of staying off social media (less scrolling time), being more consistent with reading, exercise, time better well spent overall.  Although there is more wiggle room to become better at avoiding morning procrastination (winter cold weather can do that to a person).

Winter time gives us zero harvest from the outside world.   We lack a greenhouse.  However, I purchased a cilantro plant for indoor growing.  We are praying we have the funds to fence the other garden, and have been working on a garden plan.  I have toyed with the idea of not growing one, but that thought quickly dissipated.  Our health is important, and I'd miss all that garden goodness.

There is nothing better than to take a red sharpie, and cross off to-do's that have lingered on the list for almost a year.

Do you ever finish a job, and then go back and look at it over and over and smile?  Ha ha!  I finally got the under-sink mats cut and installed in our master bathroom.  It came up on my list over and over, and days would fly by, and it remained on the list. Hence, cutting down the to-do list in January.  The less I had on the list, the easier it was to get them done.

The job took me about 45 minutes to an hour.  It required taking everything out of the cabinets, sorting and tossing any expired items, washing the cupboards, and finally cutting the "under sink" mats (which are waterproof) and installing them.  A bottle of shampoo or something soap related had spilled under a storage drawer unit, and we didn't even know until I took everything out.  That took the most time to clean up.

I have to admit, it looks so much better, and I feel better to have crossed that (along with other jobs) off of the list for January.

There has been a lot of joy this month.  Oh, we had glitches, but we plowed thru them.   We have a lot to be thankful for.  I am much better at looking for/finding the joy in every day (even in mundane chores/to-do's), and January did not go buy without noticing.  In the past, days were just about getting thru them.

My hamstring injury is almost completely healed.  I am thrilled to say I am back to wearing my own insulated muck boots again.  Back story on that - when I went to take the right boot off, it would cause excruciating pain up my entire leg (hamstring).  No more sailing over an open dishwasher door.

Thank you for the prayers in regards to my hamstring healing, and also for our January doctor appointments.  We both have follow appointments in early February now.  I had to stop taking the medication they gave me for my leg (anti-inflammatory medication), as it was causing bad side effects.  I resorted to an anti-inflammatory diet and stretching.  By the way Youtube videos, and stretching moves from a daughter worked better than the one stretch my family doctor gave me.

As for our follow-ups, it's routine, but I am praying for good blood work results, good results overall, and that we just keep doing the best we can with real food, exercise, a good night's sleep, and the like.

In light of my recent hamstring incident, I have decided to keep my floor stretch exercises included in my exercise routine.  The older we get the more flexibility we need I guess.

Betsy at The Simple Life of a Queen, reminded me to slow down, and I am forever thankful for that.  I have more crossed off the to-do list this month than I did in the last two months, and it was from not being in a frenzy every single day (in a hurry to get it ALL done in a day).

Tomorrow starts a new month, a new plan, new goals, continued plans, and living life to the fullest.  There may be another puzzle involved too, ha ha!

Here's to new adventures, new exciting discoveries, goals met, and more.

I would be interested in hearing the specifics of your stretching exercises. I am still dealing with the after effects of knee surgery for a torn meniscus. PT doesn’t start until March! And yes, I’m an old fart 🤣

Good Morning! I'm glad that your hamstring is so much better. It's been a productive month around here too, especially this past week. My back has let me get some long overdue housework done that I have neglected. On my to do list was putting a waterproof mat under the kitchen sink! We must be thinking alike. I actually ordered one on Amazon that fits perfectly and was just over $10.00. It has a lip to contain any spills or leaks from the sink. I threw out so many old cleaners and combined half bottles of the same cleaner that I didn't know were clear in the back. I put little shelves and bins that I had in storage so I can actually see what I have. It's amazing how much satisfaction completing that little project gave me.
I've done lots of other projects this week too and I'm very grateful for a body that finally letting me move a little bit. I don't know what's different or why my back is behaving, but I'm grateful!
Have a lovely day my friend. February begins tomorrow! One day closer to spring and for us, camping!
Blessings,
Betsy

That's such good news about your hamstring injury.

I agree about crossing things off a to-do list! Sounds like you did an excellent job with yours and are doing well meeting your goals. A good way to say goodbye to January.
Katie C, the best ones were sent via messenger, so I will see if I can get those from there onto the blog.
Betsy, you and I must be thinking alike, ha ha! Glad to hear that your back is allowing you to get stuff done like that. Yes, another day closer to camping weather.
Leigh, thanks. I do have more on our to-do list, but I'm gaining to get it done during the winter months.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
