Random Tidbits

I've been doing some more deep cleaning. Dumping drawers, sorting, purging, tossing, re-organizing.  I'm purging like a mad woman this year. I saved those days for rainy days.

And look at this.  I don't think I need any new bandanas for outdoor work and camping this year.  Ha!  They are all washed and ready for the season.

Breakfast - collard frittata.  The kids can simply re-heat quickly before school, so they can get more greens.

Dinner - crock pot of chili, buttermilk cornbread, and jalapeno butter.  Normally, this butter would be great on a steak, but we topped our cornbread with it. I used frozen slices of jalapeno (with seeds), garlic and bit of olive oil.  I did not have any cilantro on hand (dried or fresh).

I could not wait any longer for a nice big salad.  I went to the grocery store and bought all organic ingredients, and topped it with home grown green onions.

I think my problem with my fingernails is not lack of protein, but lack of folic acid.  Growing up I did not eat greens or salads.  As an adult, I do, but not nearly enough.  Now that I have added more greens to my diet (some times twice a day), my nails feel stronger.  I'll know if that's the case after the next 5 months.  It's been a month now. We do eat lots broccoli and asparagus, but not enough beets. I'm opening a jar of beets today.  Mmmm!

I wish I could hang clothes outside. I can't wait to move back North where I will have a clothesline for sure and no ticks dropping out of the trees! LOL!
My nails have always been strong but I don't grow them long...they never split or crack and I have Osteoporosis...go figure!?! I also wear no gloves either washing dishes or gardening. Plus, it sounds like you eat more greens than I do....and I only have beets about once a year. I do take vitamins though, D3, Omega 3, multi and Co-Q10....maybe it's one of those? I never took them before though when I was your age and my nails were strong. Maybe it's a gene? I do get hang nails though. All we can do is try. If that's your only malady you're doing good! Have a nice weekend.

Save a piece of that breakfast frittata for me? Looks dee-lish!

I broke down last week and bought a bunch of organic radishes from our Co-op. (I LOVE radishes.) But, sigh, they didn't taste anything like those from my garden. :o( Good thing radishes grow so quickly and I can keep successive plantings of them going until the weather gets too hot. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em! (Wonder what's in them that my body needs?)
Sam I am, it's been kind of fun looking up new recipes that have greens in them.
Mama Pea, that's what I added to the salad - radishes. I waited to see which kiddo would pick them out, but so far they have not. Radishes are a good source for folate (and many other nutrients).

I love getting the washing line dried it smells so fresh and clean, my nails have improved 100% since moving here, I never wear gloves I let natures soil manicure them, I am sure its the improvements in diet mostly organic that has aided the improvement.
Dawn, I do use gloves to weed, but typically don't during planting season. I love the smell of line dried laundry too. It's wonderful.

I love the photograph of all your colorful bandanas! I need to add more greens to my diet. My nails need help!
Thanks Susan, I couldn't resist taking a photo, it just looked pretty. My 14 year-old has not eaten collards in a a breakfast dish before and loved it.

Bro Tom loves bandanas, he uses them instead of handkerchiefs, so I try to get him some each Christmas. The Italian chef Lidia Bastianich has said they often made sandwiches for lunch out of fritattas they'd had for breakfast. Sounds good. I wish someone would come sort and purge my house. I just can't seem to get into it, though I seriously need to.
Prayers everyone has a great safe week.
God bless.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
