Camping Lantern Dilema

I have been searching for a replacement bulb for this battery operated camping lantern for two years.

It requires this bulb.  I have not been able to find this on the Coleman site itself.  I'm pretty sure they don't make the lantern any longer.  I'm torn between disposing the lantern or not.   Yesterday I found the bulb on Amazon for $17.77.  There were 7 good reviews, and 5 negative reviews.  The five were stating the bulb didn't last long.  I'm not spending $17.77 on a light bulb for a camping lantern.  Looks like I may be purchasing a new lantern this season.  I see they have rechargeable ones.  Maybe I should invest in one that runs on propane?  Any ideas would be welcomed.

How about a hand crank one. We have a lantern and a radio that is hand crank and we can even change our phone on the radio if need be.

No wonder they were discontinued - with such expensive replacement bulbs~ I wonder if they make solar lanterns (I'm sure they do).

A few years 3-4 ago, I purchased a Coleman LED lantern. It is battery run, and I have had the batteries last 2 to 3 years because the led bulbs draw very little power. It produces a nice bright light, without the danger of the fuel operated ones. Top rated by me.

Did you check for the bulb on eBay? Amazon would probably give you some info on the latest in LED battery operated lanterns if you decide to go with a new one. They're so much easier, nicer (safer?) than the ones that run on fuel.
Kim, we had a hand crank one many years ago, but it quit working. Good tip. I didn't know they can charge phones too.
Susan, we have one small solar light, but it doesn't put much light out.
Sharon, thank you for sharing. I have been wondering which to purchase.
Mama Pea, I haven't tried ebay. I will do that. Otherwise I'll be looking into the LED lights. Thanks.

My hubby is in the electrical biz and said go to Home Depot (or wherever) and get a 7 Watt compact florescent bulb, any color. Ignore the last #'s after the 7 watt. That is just the COLOR of the bulb. That's what's driving the price up. Look for PLC7/27K. Hope that helps...

I like LED personally, much brighter! And the bulbs last forever!!!

With all the modern technology available today, I'd get a new one with LED bulbs, and I'd get one that was rechargeable. We have rechargeable batteries and a charger for all of our AA/AAA needs, and while they cost twice as much at the start, they've saved us a bundle over the last year.
God bless.

Apples and Tomatoes Oh My!

The early morning weather here has been downright chilly.  One morning it was 42 degrees.  Flower beds have been weeded.  The herb garden is next in line, but I do need to figure out what to do with all the rosemary plants I planted in the actual vegetable garden.  I have not mastered keeping them alive all winter indoors.  They will not survive the winter if left outside. Did any of my blog writing followers locate a better "blog" platform online?  Just curious if anyone is moving from blogger.

Under the Weather ~ What's Growing?

I have not been around in blogland much, due to being under the weather after I pushed myself way to far one day.  I have to remember we cannot do it all in one day.  Thank goodness for teas and tinctures, and healing foods (and rest).  We are feeling better. As for our blogs being used for advertising on many websites, and so forth (I can't see any other reason for the source of views: howstuffworks, dominospizza, mayoclinic {not the blog readers interested in my actual blog}) the numbers continue to climb.  I have not found a way to "opt" out either.  If any of you find a new way to avoid this, blog elsewhere, find a new platform etc, please be sure to share.   If your blog has ads, you are are not going to complain, ha ha!  You are probably making a bucko-bucks with all these visitors to your blog. Okay, back to the update post . . .

16 Weeks Until Christmas

It's not hard to believe that we are traveling closer to the winter holidays.  I'm trying to focus on enjoying every single day until then, but I am fitting in a few snippets of holiday preparing.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.  It's hard to believe it's the last day of August. I have not yet gotten rid of the links to all the advertisers using my blog posts, but again, still working on it. However, my profile has gone from my blog, and while I am in settings, it is not able to add as a "gadget" to the blog.  Weird things are happening.   Google had a data breach recently as well, so gmail users were advised to change passwords.  Not sure what else is going on, but just in case you are wondering why my "profile" is not on my blog any longer.   Okay, back to the Christmas countdown post . . .
