Okay, what's your "go-to" crock pot dish for a Thanksgiving meal? I need two sides to take to a gig on the day after Thanksgiving and someone is already bringing green bean casserole. I love to bring BBQ green beans, but that would be a lot of green beans then. Hm. Any ideas? Glazed carrots? I don't want to do mac n' cheese.
Has anyone bought and used the crochet hooks that light up? I have read reviews that some give you a headache from the light. I would love to buy some, but I though I'd ask here and see if any of you who crochet uses them.
Short post today.

I would make glazed carrots! Or even a warm soup might be an added plus at a holiday gathering. I have never seen light up crochet hooks.
Thanks Carol, great ideas.
I have bought the hooks that light up. Oddly enough I don't or have not used one to actually crochet in the dark.I like the size of them, and if you needed to crochet in the dark they would work fine enough, not for a long period of time. They work especially well on the really dark yarn, sometimes those stitches are difficult to see even in the daytime. But I like them. The side dish? hm...how about a cranberry mold, or sweet potatoe casserole.?
Baked corn casserole or bread rolls
Hi Kristina :) I have no ideas...all of my Thanksgiving dishes aren't slow cooked. Maybe something with apples?
Kristina, how about sweet potato chunks cut up with a tablespoon of molasses and marshmallows or a mushroom and rice crockpot idea. I take button mushrooms and cut then into quarters, cut a half stick of salted butter into small cubes and set aside. Wash two to three cups of long-grain white rice until the water runs clear. You can throw in some wild rice to make it better. put the water or chicken stock which I prefer, in until when you put your finger in to barely touch the rice the water comes up to the first knuckle from your fingernail. This measurement always works for me. Then throw in two teaspoons of crushed chicken bullion, a generous pinch of pepper, sea salt, any herbs that you like. I throw in a bit of finely chopped tarragon, your mushrooms, butter chunks and give it a stir. Put it on medium-high and the mushroom rice should be done by the time you make it over the hills and through the woods. I love making this side because I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes. When you get to your destination, give the rice a little stir and pour it all out into a serving dish that I hope you brought.
Thank you for all of your ideas!
crock pot cornbread dressing
I double this for my large crock pot. I mix it up ahead of time (all ingredients) and freeze it. I thaw overnight in refrigerator and throw it in the crock pot in the morning. It always gets rave reviews. I find it takes longer than 4 hours. I stir it about 3 hours in to make sure it's all getting cooked.
Slow Cooker Cornbread Dressing
4 ½ cups cornbread crumbs
16 oz. pkg. herb stuffing mix
2 (10 ¾ oz) cans cream of chicken soup
2 (14 oz) cans low sodium chicken broth
1 med onion, chopped
½ cup chopped celery
4 lg. eggs
1 T. rubbed sage
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
2 T. butter, cut up
STIR together cornbread crumbs, stuffing mix, and next 8 ingredients in large bowl.
POUR cornbread mixture into lightly greased 5 ½-6 qt. slow cooker. Dot with butter.
COOK covered on Low 4 hours or until cooked through and set.
2 (7.5 oz) pkgs. Martha White Yellow Cornbread Mix prepared according to pkg. directions yields 7 cups of crumbs.

You're welcome. I so enjoy your blog. I, too, enjoy canning and crafting and have "issues" with grown children. :) I'm in Tennessee, but I'm a Texan by birth and in heart. We've been here in middle TN for 8 years after too many years in Houston.
So glad you hear you enjoy my blog. We took have "issues" with grown kids, but hope some day they come around. We visited TN this year and loved it.
