Random Tidbits

I had 4 mashed potato servings in the freezer from last year.  They had a small amount of ice on each one, but guess what....

 ...we baked them up the other night, and they tasted absolutely fine.  No freezer burn taste.  Just delicious-ness.  They are not yellow, that was the lighting that evening, as it was dark outside and raining.  Oh, the rain fell, and fell and fell and is still falling today.


My new slippers.  I just love them too.  Only I keep my old ones by the door so I don't get them dirty when a dog wants to go out (early in the morning).

Wine making supplies were picked up, and we are ready to proceed to the next step - making it.  We are nervous, as we have never done this, and we know only a few people who have.  I doubt we'll start it today, most likely Sunday or the day after.

Hubby and I stopped over to finally meet my new niece.  Oh my gosh she is adorable!!  She is so alert and advanced for her age already.  So happy for them. My younger brother shared a bottle of his own home brewed beer with us.  In fact, it's in the refrigerator to enjoy later today on the porch.  He even created his own labels. 

In our adventure in looking for the last of the wine making supplies, we located a new health store that carries local grass-fed beef and other meats.  Oh, it's expensive, but guaranteed to be gmo/chemical free.  I'm just glad half the family is vegetarian.

If the rain stops, I will need to return to the garden and pick fall planted green beans.  I know they are ready, but the rain just keeps coming.  The potatoes need dug up, the pinto beans need taken out, the squash all pulled, and.....yeah, I'll be pretty busy in a day or two.  Today - no canning.  Feels awesome.

  2. Oh, I do envy you getting started on wine making! That's something we've talked about doing for years, but have just never gotten to. All summer long as we picked our abundant crop of blueberries and strawberries, we kept saying to each other, "We have GOT to learn how to turn some of this luscious fruit into wine!" Be sure to let all of us know how your wine making adventures go.

  3. Susan and Mama Pea, we had started the wine making, but cross your fingers. I'm not sure, but it feels like the blind leading the blind in this adventure, ha ha!
