Typewriter Tidbits

While the snow came down yesterday, I put my crocheting down to log in some writing hours.

I managed to send off my contest entry, revise one short article, and brain storm for three or four more new ones.

Two of the girls, assisted in the quick and short brain storming session.  This however, led to me sitting at the computer ordering as many books as I can on one particular subject.  I can't very well write one of the topics one suggested, until I know what I'm doing.  The subject?  Getting college paid for when you don't have the cash.  Her motive?  To get more help from me, and I have no idea what I'm doing.  Oldest Daughter, and Son will get all (or most) of their college education paid for by the military.  Wish me luck. Either way I'll learn something from it.

Until then, I'll tackle the easier topics.

I also got a start on handmade gifts for next Christmas.  Some things I make are easier to get done now, then to try and rush making them right after (which I hope it to be again this year) a very busy harvest season.  I feel so much better this spring than last (as far as making progress with this).

The strike continues.  There really hasn't been any talk or update.  They have a rally every now and then, but talks seem to drag and drag.  If your family was suddenly without income, would you be prepared?  This is a "wake-up call" for us.

A small note on handmade/homemade anything - I hope that my experiences in making things myself, does not make anyone feel guilty or feel any other bad feelings for not making things from scratch.   This blog a documentation of our real life, and it's not meant to hurt anyone's feelings.

To me, your posts about everything you manage to make at home are nothing but an inspiration. I'm certainly not as knowledgeable or talented in that respect as you are but you definitely inspire me to learn more and do more. I figure the more self-sufficient we all become (in all ways that are comfortable and possible) the better off we are. Relearning the lost art of producing necessities at home gives such a sense of confidence. It's like taking our freedom back in our own hands after many years of relying on big business or other individuals to supply what we need often at prices we simply cannot afford.

You never present your accomplishments in a boastful or superior way. Readers can take the information and run with it. Or choose not to. Please keep up your very informative, inspiring, and interesting posts, Kristina!

I think that people who make handmade/homemade anything are inspiring, and far from insulting! My bf and I are moving towards a more self-sufficient lifestyle one step at a time. Today is homemade yogurt day, dreaming of garden day and watching the snow fall day up in the northern mountains of Quebec. And to answer your question, no...we are not fully prepared if we lose our income, but we're getting there, courage to you all.

Far from feeling bad, you inspire me. In all candor, reading your blog articles is a pleasure for me.. seriously. Most days, it's the last thing I read before going to bed. Your talent & stick to it-ness really does give me something to think about, especially on a bad day, it leaves me with a feeling that all of us out there, are in this together, in one way or another. As to making do, due to being without income, my late husband was in a union, and we went through a few strikes, but the roughest experience was when he became ill, and lost his job, and health insurance. That was a real scramble.

Thank you Mary!

I agree with everyone else. Your talent and creativity are very inspirational. You've inspired me to try some things that I might not have otherwise. Misfortune can strike all of us at any given time - it's always a good idea to keep that in the back of your mind and to be as prepared as possible. I'm afraid most people would be in a world of hurt if their fortunes would shift.

Gracious sakes! I never thought making things from scratch could cause a controversy. I've found it interesting and informative. I don't do it much myself, but I sure admire those who can.

God bless.

Did someone criticize your blog? They don't have to read it if they don't like it...."gracious sakes alive" as my Aunt used to say! You are an inspiration and a hard worker! You have nothing to apologize for and I hope the strike ends soon.

I just want to make sure I'm not putting pressure or guilt on anyone to make things themselves.
