What are you looking forward to? I'm looking forward to
quiet mornings on the porch watching the sunrise and sipping coffee (or tea). Reading devotionals, writing, crafting, and enjoying the family on the porch as well. Getting my hands in the dirt, planting new herbs, vegetables and flowers.
In winter I do look forward to hunkering down and curling up with a good book, getting organized, cleaned up, and finishing up handiwork too, but spring (and fall) are my favorite seasons I think.
Thanks to my older brother, I have a new seed catalog to order from. I've never heard of this one, so I am anxious to see what's in store for us.

I think my favorite seasons are fall and winter. (Maybe that's why we live where we do!) There's a very lazy person inside me that revels in the hunkering down in winter time. But because I love to garden so much, there must be something about summer that attracts me, too. :o}
That's good to know about the company. I am slowly getting my list written out, so I can budget seed buying. I think the winter chill just makes me want to curl up in a blanket (after all those barn chores are done, and dogs walked).

ReplyDeleteI still had some seed packets from High Mowing seeds.....from like eight years ago. And some of them were still viable! I haven't ordered from them since then though; I'm kind'a spoiled by my local feed store that stocks heritage seeds as well as the fact that Baker Creek is just an hour & half north of us.

Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons. For Spring, I'm looking forward to warmer weather when I can sit outside on the porch swing and relax.
ReplyDeleteBecause large farmlands border our back property, we can't plant food back there, because whatever they choose to dose their plantings with wafts over onto our plantings back there. We do, however, plant herbs and vegies in pots around the front yard, where it's plenty sunny and safe from farm spraying.

ReplyDeleteWe're pretty sure they spray with something like RoundUp. Thing that bothers me most is, they give us no warning whatsoever, and sometimes the dog, cats and chickens are outdoors when they spray.
I don't like that. If I knew in advance, I'd shelter the animals both during and for a good long while after the farmer's spray.
Problem is, it's not the farmers themselves doing the spraying, it's the tenants they rent the land to, and they don't give a darn about neighbors, I guess, cause we aren't THEIR neighbors.

RB, the last few years, the land owners leased out to farmers who spray by airplane (crop dusters), and both years I had terrible bloody noses. I have to wear a mask the day after as well as the day they spray nearby. We get no warning either. I could have my laundry out, and have to run out and take it all down quickly when I hear them. There should be better laws. Some people pump from their ponds and this stuff can get into their ponds.
ReplyDeleteAh yes...I love the time after the holidays to plan the garden, cozy up and do some handwork. I'd have to say Fall and Winter are my favorites although I was a big gardener up North....here it is really difficult so hot and now I'm putting all my effort into moving back North so I try not to put too much in the ground that I have to water twice a day plus here I pay for my water.

P.S. I laughed so hard at the JM quote and copied it down! So true and my sentiments exactly! Actually it was the "christians" that moved me to stop attending organized religion...that and their patriarchal ways. LOL!
