After a long day working at cleaning out flower beds (more to clean yet), I went inside to clean up. I glanced out the window and saw something in the yard.
At first I thought the hawks killed one of our chickens and it was just laying there, by the ditch that runs off the creek. Then it moved. Check out all that mud on it's back.
By golly, this guy (or gal) had a shell of about 12 inches or longer. Yesterday was an interesting day for me. I saw two hawks, two low flying geese, and this turtle. I also heard wrens singing.
We've had one of those in the yard... they are quite scary looking!
ReplyDeleteWe got rid of it and it came back...he ended up taking a bullet.
Can't have something that dangerous with chickens and kids. :/
You shot a turtle? I hope you're joking...
ReplyDeleteLittle guy needs a bath!
No Nancy, we did not shoot him. That was a comment from a follower. We actually took a stick and carefully cleaned off the mud from his back, and let him go on his way to the creek. If he does become a nuisance, we will have a Ranger or volunteers catch and release him somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lot further along in yard work than I am! Hoping to get outside this Saturday and get going :)
ReplyDeleteFun seeing the turtle. He's a big fellow.
Well, I learned something new, since we don't have them out here, I did not know they could become a problem!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! Your garden sounds like it is making some good headway! *sigh* mine is still in its winter coat of leaves and branches. With 22F temperatures and sleet in the forecast I don't think I will be making any progress out there today either!
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy gardening,
