We've been using this recipe for years. I like the fact that it's basic, similar to what the Pioneers used. I can use milk from my goats or future cow, and I can make my own butter from cream. These are delicious with buttermilk also.
Homemade Biscuits
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup cold butter
3/4 cup cold milk or cold buttermilk
Preheat oven to 450°F.
In a bowl, combine dry ingredients. Cut butter into the dry mixture until is resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cold milk with a fork until dough forms a ball.
Rub olive oil into your hands, and then knead the dough 5-6 times on a floured surface, or pastry cloth.
Roll dough into about a 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 3 inch biscuit cutter. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 10-11 minutes at 450°F. or until golden brown.
Tip: Use a heart shaped cookie cutter for a fun Valentine's Day breakfast or dinner.
This recipe is perfect for Biscuits and Gravy.
Enjoy!

thanks for the recipe!
Well Hello There...I popped on over from Mary Janes Farm family and wanted to drop a little note and say hey---love your little part of the blog world here! Wish I could knit...will try your biscuit recipe--or at least have my daughter give it a whirl! Will give an attempt at some nifty pitcher/glass/ food covers at some point as well! Enjoy the day...
Hello Donna, thanks for visiting.
The best bicuits I ever had, easy to make! Great texture and flaky!Thank you so much!!!
This was the best recipe I've made to date. I've been searching for a good one for years. I'm excited that I can stop searching.
I've been searching years for a good biscuit recipe. I've finally found it. Yay! Question though. I only got 7 biscuits out of this. Is that about right?
Katie,
I do have to double the recipe for my own family.
Thank you for the recipe. I have added baking powder to mine only 1 tsp. The recipe on the flour bag doesn't call for it at all. Yours look so fluffy. I like that this is a Pioneer method, I like all things pioneer. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome Faith.
sausage biscuits and gravy for for supper, I'm using your recipe. I am looking forward to hopefully taller biscuits. That 1tbs of BP should do the trick. :)
Thanks Faith, let me know how yours turn out.
I've made these before many times and they are really delicious!
