Tuesday Tidbits

It's been a trial week and it's only Tuesday.  It will be a longer week too.  I pray that God gives our nephew's family protection, love, support, and all the mental healing they need

It's not only the night shift change anxiety/strain/tension right now, but another death in our family.  We got the call last night (Monday) just about 15 minutes prior to Hubby leaving for work.  Their family, and ours, could use prayers, uplifting thoughts, and good mojo.  We lost our great nephew's father.  We just lost our great nephew in late January, and now his father (my husband's nephew).  The great nephew was only 21 years old.  I am not certain, but I think our nephew was in his early 40's.  Last year we buried my husband's sister, mother to this nephew.

Flustered and in no shape to crochet, I had a baby yarn disaster last night too.  I messed up, pulled out two rows, but in the process of putting the rows back in, created the worst mess of a knot.  I went in search of help from a daughter, who tried her best to unravel it.  To no vail, we cut the yarn.  I put it away for now, but will need to take out a half of a row, and re-attach the yarn.  Sigh.  I'm just in no condition to crochet for a day or two.

To uplift this post and share some self-sufficiency data going on here at the Rooster's Crow Farm. . .

I started my first herbal infused witch hazel.  It will be interesting to see if it helps for the purpose I made it for.

Homemade shampoo was restocked.

A jar of nettle hair tonic was brewed.

A liniment was started, which was made with apple cider vinegar vs. rubbing alcohol or witch hazel.  It will be another interesting experiment.

An herbal infused oil was started for another purpose.  Again, an experimental oil, which I could find no testimonies (which is very typical now-a-days) with, but felt worth trying.

To leave you with happy news -  I have chickweed growing.  I won't harvest it just yet, but I'm super excited for spring weeds.  I need to restock all of them.  Chickweed, if you haven't eaten it, does not tolerate refrigeration so it's best to pick and eat fresh.

It's 27°F this morning, and by Friday the weather man states we'll get a high of 73°F.  The onslaught of rain starts the following Saturday.  Crazy weather every where this year.

Your family has had more than their share of heartache and tragedy, Kristina. My thoughts and love go out to you all. I hope that things get brighter and lighter for you. I had to laugh - only folks like us get excited about the weeds coming up!

So sorry to hear of this latest tragedy in your family, Kristina. I know when I sit quietly and do handwork, I do some of my best thinking. But during a time as you're going through, I can understand that the thinking might not take the best direction. You getting up and doing physical tasks was no doubt the wisest thing to do right now. Sending my sympathies.

Thank you Mama Pea, I tried to crochet on Tuesday, and ended up ripping out the row two times. I may be a bit more level headed today, but my husband's heart is hurting badly. He was a late baby, and was 5 years old when his nephew was born. They were like brothers and very close. We had been meeting with him and his ex-wife weekly, to make sure they were surrounded with family, since the loss of their son. It's just so tragic.
