I think I finally caught up on the laundry. I may have one load yet to finish today. During my next trip however, whoever is home will get laundry chores.
Yesterday, I had to make a mad dash to the rain barrel to try and save my flowers and herbs. The younger two did not do their chores as asked, and my porch pots are either dead, dying or look terrible. They just about let my organic herbs die too. I desperately worked away, watering and removing dead leaves.
I just realized that my water trough flower bed of sunflower seeds, has no sunflowers this year. Those must of died in the masses of rain too.
I had picked up some more green beans on the recent road trip, and blanched and froze those (adding 5 more quart bags to the freezer). I do need more.
Later, I ran out of clothesline space, but in the time it took to make a 5 gallon bucket of homemade detergent, some of it dried and gave me more space to finish.
White the grated handmade goat's milk soap was melting in water on the stove top, I ran outside and cut more calendula. I think I'll need more pots of it, or I'll simply plant it in the herb garden next year. It's taking a long time to get enough for my next project.
While I waited for more laundry to dry, because this time I ran out of clothespins, I photographed the last three finished embroidered kitchen towels.
A while back, the kids and I were discussing the situation here with the vegetable garden, and I was sharing the latest fate with our investments here.
My three year old plum tree doesn't look so well. The leaves are turning, and most likely from too much rain.
However, I do see new green shoots on some of the branches. I'm praying it makes it through, as we expect fruit next season (or the year after).
Then, there were these nasty worms on a granny apple tree, who devoured half of the leaves. First time for these guys. Picked them all off, but I'm wondering if more will return. If you treat your apple trees (or any fruit trees) with anything organic, I'd love to hear about it.

We were sitting on the porch, and talking about how I don't have all the garden work to do this season I normally should
"Hey Mom, since you don't have the garden, you have time to write your book now," exclaimed Oldest Daughter.
Soon there was a excitement of suggestions, murder mystery ideas, and crazy killer story proposals, and thoughts. My kids got my zippy mojo flowing, and writing has now resumed. I know there is about 50 books in my head, I just need to get the right one written.
Random Tidbits:
With so many interested in the zucchini salsa, I plan to share the making of that recipe soon.
Also, I plan to make flour tortillas with lard (vs. organic oil) soon.
I recently recycled a vintage alfalfa sack in my kitchen. Go to my S.C.R.A.P. Blogspot to check it out. Hubby loves what I did to cover the cupboard cubbies. It not only looks better, keeps the dust out, but it covers the dark wood color.

You are such a busy, creative lady! I think the kids' idea of you taking the time to write your book (or fifty!) is just a wonderful way to turn the lemons (no garden harvest) into lemonade!! Could it be a blessing in disguise? If only we didn't need to eat . . . !

Mama Pea, I have almost drained one rain barrel watering my herbs and flowers. As soon as I took my laundry down, one of the girls filled the line back up with their laundry. It was windy and perfect to get it done quickly. Yesterday was perfect porch weather, and the cool breeze was wonderful. I hope to spend some porch time embroidering some more today.
Liz, thanks! I love the chicken towels too. I am now looking for bell peppers to re-stock those in the freezer. I typically freeze slices and dices for winter. It just feels good to get it re-stocked, despite the horrible garden year.
Don't know what those worms are. By chance, do they make a web type thing, cause I know what web worms are and how to get rid of them. Good luck on the book. I've found that if I jot down outlines of thoughts and flesh them out a bit at a time, they don't slip completely out of my mind. If I don't, pfffttt...and they're gone. hee hee
Rather miserable here. First, Bro Tom brought home a virus from the store, a head thing that causes blockage and then flowing along with hacking cough when things are flowing. Then, the other night on a walk through the yard, I stepped in a danged fire ant nest, and I'm miserable with that. Have tried alcohol rubs, Witch Hazel poultices and Technu Gel to little avail. It still itches and burns like crazy, so if anyone out there knows how to make this stop, I'd love to hear a remedy that REALLY works.
Working on keeping to the front of my mind that this too shall pass, and it's a blessing I don't have to work with these current miseries but can just relax and heal...sigh, and itch. LOL

RB, the worms did not make a web. First time I've seen them too. Have you tried chickweed salve on the ant bites? Oh! I know. Use toothpaste. If you have any, try that. My oldest told me about that.
