The other one ~ Crocheted Rug

Television has not been so entertaining lately (and the news is depressing), so I had the brainy idea of digging out some  yarn for a rug.  The one at my back door needs replaced badly, and I figured I could whip up something.

I opened the tote and found yarn that had a half-way crocheted dishcloth attached to it.  That was the "other one" I found a few days ago.

Slumping my shoulders, and lowering my head, I felt like those pesky projects where my worst nightmare this winter.  I straightened back up, smiled, and did what anyone else would do.  I ripped that booger out, and wound that yarn back on.

Then I grabbed a few more colors of yarn, and got to work.

The photo doesn't really show the mix of colors, but the next day we see sunshine, I'll update this post with a better photo.

How I made it ~ I crocheted two strands of 100% cotton yarn together, using single crochet.  I simply measured the width of my old rug, to make this one.  I used one solid color and one variegated color each time I rotated colors I had.  Each time, I varied the number of rows to create the look of the rug.

Until then, it remains cloudy here.   The old rug will get washed when it warms up, and re-used in the camper, garage, or anywhere it can be.  In fact, it would be perfect for the camper, to put outside, when the ground is a bit muddy or wet.

It appears that 300-some employees are either applying for loans, or sending out their resume for new jobs.  So far, not one person has crossed the picket line.

Our oldest daughter is making history at her old civilian job.  She took her pile of military paperwork in, and they told her they have never gone through the process of putting a soldier back on payroll after a leave.  It could be a few weeks before she's back to cashing those checks.  Hopefully, they'll figure out the paperwork a bit more quickly.

Hubby beat me out of bed this morning.  His main goal was to fix the computer, which he did.  He, however (chuckle), got the fun job of walking the wood stove ash pan out to dump (he he!).

He went out in jammies, robe and of all the things to wear out, his slippers.  He stepped into the snow and fell through, not realizing the warmer temperatures melted the top layer of ice.  When he fell through (snort!), he fell in the snow, tossing the ash pan (oh, this is so funny).  And to top it off, lost his slipper in the snow (ha ha ha ha ha!).

At least he's laughing about it.  And so are we.

You guys can still laugh after all you've been going through! Wonderful!

What kind of yarn did you use for your new rug? It looks good!

Mama Pea, thanks! It was good to see Hubby laugh at his own story too, ha ha! For the rug, I used 100% cotton. I used a K hook and two strands of yarn. I mixed a solid color with a variegated color and rotated them randomly. Hubby loves it. I have to say it was my first crocheted rug too.

Makes you think of that, "No good deed goes unpunished"! Hopefully, nothing was bruised other than his pride... :) That rug is amazing! I cannot believe it is your first one! I have my first one and it looks nothing like yours. Let's hope the weather gives us all a little break.

Susan, Hubby can be a character some days. I did say it was my first rug, but I have crocheted rag rugs before. I should say it's my first yarn rug. By using a solid color with a variegated color, it appears speckled.

RB, thanks for that story. I have yet to read that magazine too.

The rug is so pretty, and I can understand how using two strands or yarn would make it sturdy, and pretty too.

We have snow here that turned to ice when sunshine melted the top which then refroze when the sun went down. The roads are pretty clear, but walking through the yard near the trees is hazardous. Bro Tom has been having fun tossing snowballs to the dog who loves balls, to see the dog searching the snow for them when they break as they hit the ground. Yesterday he slipped and fell in the yard (says he didn't get hurt), and the dog stood there wagging his tail trying to figure out if they were playing, and if they were, what was he suppose to do next. It's been kind of funny. And just after I'd made the 2nd payment on the new car, someone hit the driver's side mirror off in the parking lot at Bro Tom's workplace. Grrr... Still, a blessing they didn't wipe the whole side of the car out. A mirror isn't that hard to find and replace.

Prayers for all dealing with this mess across pretty much of the US.

God bless.

I love a man with a sense of humor! It's a good sign when you can laugh at yourself. I do it all the time! Glad he's okay though and that you are staying warm...for the most part! It's cold here too but not as cold but it's good for me to get acclimated for going back North (hopefully).
