The Freeze ~ Homemade Shaving Cream

Temperatures plummeted (again).  Apparently, we are breaking all sorts of records for February.  Good thing I cleaned the coop when it was up in the 20's.  Even so, they didn't want to leave the barn.  Every bit of grass is covered by ice, snow, iced and snow again.

The pellet stove had a blip, and knocked out the heat for several hours.   It took hours to heat everything back up.  Thankfully, we have the wood stove too.

Oldest Daughter has not yet gotten the call to officially return to work, so I am taking advantage of her editing skills.

I spent the entire day either writing, looking for work, or hunting down college scholarships for our 18 year-old.  My head hurt by the end of the day.

The part about shaving cream. . .

I was in search for more homemade shampoo recipes, when I came across another recipe at Wellness Mama.  The shampoo recipe she posted can be diluted, put into a foaming soap dispenser, and used as a shaving cream.

I had to try it.  With so many girls here, we go through many, many cans of shaving cream.  It would reduce recycling and trash as well (and the nasty chemicals).

It foams, but not as light and fluffy as our homemade hand (foaming) soap.  However, the organic coconut milk creates a nice lathering cream.  The recipe states it lasts a month, but I don't have to worry about that in my house, ha ha!

I had a bit of trouble with it not coming through the pump, so I added a bit of olive oil to it (maybe 1/2 tsp.).  I do have to shake it up before using as well.

I'm glad I found this, as two daughters may be off to college next fall, and both will be on very tight budgets.

Homemade shaving cream! You continue to amaze me. The stuff has got to be so much better for anyone using it. Gotta remember (and remind people who don't know) that anything you put on your skin is the same as eating it . . . it gets absorbed right into your body. Your shaving cream is maybe downright good for us!! :o}

Mama Pea, I never even thought of it that way (on the skin/same as eating it). The first ingredient listed on the store brand is a cancer causer - yuck! Who knows what we'll make next, ha ha!

What a great idea. And it must leave your skin so soft after. It's freezing here too...the steel nights of the end of February are definitely upon us.

Rain, the olive oil helps moisturize too.

Nicole, you are welcome. I run into new recipes when I'm looking for something else.

There is an app named Scholly that you download for 99 cents. Several friends are using it now so you might try that. You can Google the history of the app which is really interesting too.

Thanks Hill House. I don't have an electronic to use the app. Too bad they don't have a website on the internet itself. I'll ask Hubby if he would mind adding it to his phone. Daughter said she doesn't trust them, so she doesn't want to download it to her ipod.

Scholly is a Shark Tank sponsored product associated with Damon and Lori so I'm sure there are no worries about security. Also apps don't carry viruses. They are a different kind of technology.

That said, Google it because they have access to $100 million in scholarship funds that you will most likely never find on your own.

Best of luck!

Thanks Hill House. I still need an electronic to do it. I'll have to see if we can pay and load it to her ipod.
