Library Run

I borrowed a copy of Fresh Eggs Daily, by Lisa Steele. Whether you are new at raising layers or not, I found this book to contain useful information.

There is a recipe for what to feed them during molting.

There is a recipe for hydrating chickens in hot weather with fruit packed in "ice cubes" and much more.  I had to return this book yesterday, have already re-ordered it to read more.

While I was there, I picked up more books.  As if I have time to read them all, right?

The blue on on the the right is titled, You can Buy Happiness (and it's Cheap) How One Woman Radically Simplified Her Life and How You Can Too, by Tammy Strobel.

I started to read a bit from this last night.   So far, I am enjoying it.

Today we are thankfully getting more rain. It is already cooling off here.  Last night the sun was out when Hubby and one daughter were cleaning coops.  Hubby was sweating so badly, his shirt as soaked through.  I was busy walking each dog one at a time, as they were agitated by whoever was in the woods (again).  My fitbit racked up over 14,000 steps yesterday.

Now I can't give my readers the assumption that I am sitting around reading today, ha ha!  Although that sounds like a fun idea, I must get off my bum and get animals tended to.  Yesterday I did get 4 letters in the mail - all hand written but one.

The nice part about the rain, other than watering everything good (and secretly wishing the creek will rise, he he, keep praying for us, as we have not gotten a return call from the zoning township guy), is that the ground will be soft enough start putting in the chicken fence posts this weekend.  Hopefully.  Maybe.  You know how there is always "something" that causes you to re-write the to-do list, right?

One update: Survey Guy called Hubby.  We are getting the survey done ASAP.  Guess the cost?

$700.00.

Today I am thankful for:
~ rain
~ God's Promises
~ thundershirts (two dogs really needed them recently)
~ the Postal Service
~ the library
~ flowers
~ books
~ my family, for all the support writing to my kids
~ good mail days
~ milk from our dairy goats

Don't you just love the library? I don't know what we'd do without ours. I'm tempted to see if I can get a copy of the Strobel book, but it's just the wrong time of year for me for sitting down with an interesting read. I'll put it on the list to get this fall/winter.

Always love your "grateful/appreciatiative" lists. I need to write down one of my own.

Sorry your survey is going to cost $700 but I've heard lots higher figures around here.

Mama Pea,
Thank you! I hate to get into a good book this time of year too. I just came in from planting the last of the tomatoes and watermelon. I'm dripping with sweat and it's only 11am here now. As for the survey, we were told to expect $1,000.00. So we are grateful for the lower amount (although still high).

You have great books at your library. Ours does not have much I'm interested in and they never have anything I'm looking for. They have some fiction like Janette Oke books but as fro self-suffiency or hand works....very little if at all.
I keep meaning to set my pedometer. I've been walking quite a bit and have lost 7-8 pounds.
$700 is a lot of money but I know it is expensive to do that.

I'd love to read Fresh Eggs Daily... I follow her on pinterest. Her ducks and chickens make great photo ops! Plus she shows tons of eggs!
You got quite a well-rounded group of books to read. I wonder if I could borrow some of them on the Amazon/ Kindle loan program? I will make a note and check that out.
I'm glad the surveyor is coming. Sorry it is so much, but kind of figured. Hold onto receipts... if this business gets out of hand, you may get some reimbursements, you know? Y'all hang in there.
Also, one last,
Admiring the hand written letters.
You make me want to. ;)
Now, who to write?

Kristina, I believe Lisa Steele is a farmgirl and just recently published that book. I think her blog is the same name as her book. Hope you enjoy it.

You have the most awesome library! Do you like the fitbit? I am thinking about getting one for myself and the hubby.

Liz, Hubby and I got them due to requirements of our health insurance. I do enjoy seeing the numbers, but one day I forgot to wear it.
